Home Tour | Girls Bright and Colorful Bedroom

in Bedroom, Home Decor & Landscaping

Little girls love lots of things that are full of color! From rainbows to unicorns, a first grade girl especially loves all things that are ROYGBIV. Take a tour of one girl’s bedroom that’s bright and colorful, full of DIY furniture, handmade art and her collection of crafted creations.

Girl's bright and colorful bedroom tour - before listing photos | spotofteadesigns.com

This is Brielle’s bedroom from the listing photos before we bought it almost 2 years ago. Not too cheery, if you ask me. When I asked her what theme she might want for her room, in typical then 5 year old fashion, she said “rainbow!”

I wasn’t ready to go all out on the rainbow concoction, but I think we found a good mix of introducing lots of colors into this bright, personal space. We started with a light purple color that she even got to help paint herself.

Just like Hailey’s room, Brielle’s starts with a door hanger distinguishing her room. It helps to give a little color to the otherwise white doors.

Right inside is the hot air balloon themed growth chart I painted before she was born.

We’ve marked it every six months or so, with her first mark at 8 months, as shown here.

On the right wall you’ll find one of two white dressers. You may remember this dresser set was from Derek’s childhood home that he made over with white paint and silver spray paint. He probably put no less than 5 coats of polyacrylic on it, which was well worth it since it still looks new almost 7 years later.

The dresser top holds her newly cherished unicorn jewelry box we gave her at Christmas, sound machine that she still uses nightly (and we even bring on vacation), Google for music and “Ok to wake” clock.

The shelving unit over her long dresser holds all her little craft projects, sports trophies and little trinkets all little girls collect.

The top shelf holds a cardstock heart wall art piece I made, a small frame of my “Creativity Takes Courage” wall art, her rainbow unicorn tooth fairy pillow just waiting for those 2 top teeth to come out, and some other knick knacks.

Girl's bright and colorful bedroom tour - yarn wrapped letters | spotofteadesigns.com

Over her bed we rehung the yarn wrapped letters that spell her name. I love that we can see both Hailey and her letters from the hallway.

Her bed is, of course, covered in her favorite plush animals or handmade plush crafts at all times. For those wondering, she currently has her Loopies Unicorn, favorite purple bunny and Knot a Pillow pineapple staking claim in this spot.

Girl's bright and colorful bedroom tour - books in rainbow color order | spotofteadesigns.com

Just like her sister, Brielle loves keeping her books in rainbow order (wonder where they get that from) with the milk crates holding little toys and quiet time activities. The bear bank that was made by my aunt and previously in my bedroom as a kid, now lives in the little corner of this space.

Between the two tall windows is a little space where a little pieces of rainbow wall art now lives.

You may remember that she created the backdrop of this piece herself using a bleeding tissue paper technique.

I completed the look by adding the cardstock letters cut with my Cricut machine. It’s one of my favorite pieces of wall art hung in our home.

Girl's bright and colorful bedroom tour - closet organization before | spotofteadesigns.com

Last year the closet, and all the closets in the bedrooms, looked like this one. Just one single wire shelf, too high for a younger child to reach.

We updated it with the same closet system we put in Hailey’s to make this space more functional for her so she can be self sufficient. It contains an assortment of her favorite games, her dresses within reach and even some of the DIY shoes I’ve made.

The other dresser currently holds the yarn wrapped lamp and a rainbow canvas she painted herself.

This girl loves her rainbows and I’m happy she has a special place in our home that’s all hers and all her personality!

5 Tips to Make Shell Canvases like this: 🐚 Draw ou 5 Tips to Make Shell Canvases like this:
🐚 Draw out a stencil of your preferred shape. It's optional to paint the shape itself, but even a rough pencil line will keep you on task
🐚 Use strong glue and a lot of it! I used E6000 glue and ended up having to get more than what you see here.
🐚 Flip the shells over! There are some cool colors on the insides that may match better than the top side.
🐚 Clean and dry the shells thoroughly. Sorry, but I have no tips about this process as my mom had these ones for year from past trips, but you don't want some smelly shells hanging in your home!
🐚 Don't skip on those little shells as those minis are perfect to fill in the gaps of the collages.

Hello fellow readers! If you're looking for some r Hello fellow readers! If you're looking for some recommendations for historical fiction reads, here are 5 of my favorites I enjoyed last year that I'd recommend to readers who like this genre (with no spoilers):
.
The Frozen River by Arial Lawhorn – Takes place in the post American Revolution times, narrated by a midwife sharing her challenges in this profession and not being taken seriously but still having people trust her medical authority. It includes a murder and trial, which just reiterates how crazy it was to be a woman back then and their lack of rights!
.
The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel – Like many of her books, this author focuses on the French aspect of WWII, but this time as those who helped forge documents to help Jewish children cross the border.
.
The Nature of Fragile Things by Susan Miessner – Follow Susan Whalen who comes to San Francisco in 1906 as a mail order bride only to get into the middle of a complicated life after marrying a man she never met and things she discovers during a nature disaster in her state.
.
The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali – Starts in the 1950s in Iran where we meet two friends and follow their story through the historic time of this country. This fictional read shares more about the culture and limitations of women and those who try to change the government while struggling to maintain friendships.
.
The Rose Code by Kate Quinn – An assortment of female friendships during WWII as they work to break secret codes by the German military and continues to follow their stories through the years.
.
If you have a suggestion on another in this genre, please leave it in the comments so I can add to my TBR!
