There’s a never ending supply of homemade Halloween costumes online and I’m about to present you with yet another easy one! Take your bathrobe, attach some cats to it, don some curlers and voila, you’re a crazy cat lady! Check out this fun Crazy Cat Lady Halloween costume with a little DIY element!

In NJ, Halloween can be warm OR cold, just depends on the year. But this is one costume that’s sure to keep you warm and cozy if you’re in a cold area of the country. While I may not rock this on actual Halloween night (not many adults in our kid crew rock a costume) I will likely wear this as part of the Trunk or Treat car at my kid’s school. Stay tuned on a future post about that!
Crazy Cat Lady Halloween Costume Supplies:
- Plush Robe
- Poly-Fil Polyester Fiber Fill
- Cat Heat SVG Cut File Template
- Felt – any cat colors you want! I used orange, tan, brown and grey
- Heat Transfer Vinyl – pink, white, and black
- Cricut Maker
- Embroidery Floss and Thread that matches your felt cats
- Fabric Scissors
- Easy Press Heat Press
- Safety Pins
- Optional: PJ pants, slippers, curlers
I raided my daughters’ collections of plush stuffed animals and only came up with 2 cats so I had to create some of my own for this crazy cat lady costume.
I cut out the cat face template using cardstock and my Cricut Maker and traced it on a few pieces of felt, 2 per head. Cats come in all colors so I went with whatever felt I had on hand – orange, grey, brown and tan.
Next, I cut some of their face components from black, white and pink heat transfer vinyl and ironed them on the front of each pair of cat heads.
I sewed the cat heads together, leaving an opening to stuff in the Poly-Fil. I used a blanket stitch for this design as I like how it keeps the edges clean.
I love me a fat cat so I was able to stuff some of these bad kitties with Poly-Fil Polyester Fiber Fill til my heart’s content! I love how you can collect the smallest clumps of this filler material and stuff it into all sorts of shapes, using a pencil to get it into those sharp cat ear corners. After filling them up, I sewed each cat head closed.
Next, attach these new felt cats to the robe using safety pins on the inside of the robe so I didn’t permanently ruin my bathrobe.
If your robe has pockets like mine, make sure to pin them a little bit inside the pocket so it looks like you’re carrying around even more cats stuffed in there!
Finish off this handmade Halloween costume with a pair of flannel PJ pants, slippers (or slipper looking Uggs), curlers in your hair (got mine at Dollar Tree), glasses and any other crazy cat lady accessories you can think of!
