When you are a crafty girl and have crafty kids you end up with…you guessed it… lots of crafts! And while they’re always fun to create, they can sometimes be challenging to display.

When roaming through my local barn sale one week, I spotted this decorative shelf that I thought could be perfect for my oldest daughter’s room to display her little finished crafts. Each section had the right amount of width and depth and the $10 price tag seemed like the perfect fit to live in her room! I began this decorative shelf makeover with a good cleaning, some holes filled in with wood filler and sanding to make it smooth.

Next I cleaned it all up with a tack cloth that helped get any dirt and dust out of the little nooks and crannies.
It was time to give this decorative shelf a good coat of spray paint!

I laid it on these small wood blocks I have for painting and got to work adding 3 light layers of spray paint. It took two coats of this Krylon prime + paint white spray paint to cover all the little spots of this decorative piece.

Once thoroughly dried, I sealed it with two coats of polycrylic, which goes on clear and has no yellowing hue! A step I wish I had done on my entryway table makeover last year, but one we did do on our nursery dresser makeover over 8 years ago and it’s still going strong!

Derek added two of these hooks on the back and it was ready to hang in Brielle’s room to hold all her little toys, trinkets and crafts.

We hung it low enough for her to reach it so she can rearrange her little pieces as her tastes or seasons change.
