As a party stylist and crafty person, I want the actual parties I throw to have the aesthetic I like with plenty of handmade touches. But now that the girls are at an age where they want to help and can do more things, I’m working to find ways to get them involved but still keep my look. Today we’re sharing the watermelon paper plate gift tags they crafted up for their watermelon themed birthday party that we tied to all the party favors!
This was a great project to do one rainy morning about a month before the party. So yes, they are in their PJs in these photos. They were into the project by itself but Brielle, especially was stoked to see it turn into a component of her party!
Supplies to make Watermelon Paper Plate Gift Tags:
- White paper plate
- Sharpie marker
- Pink, green and black tissue paper
- Glue stick
First I drew a black circle on the paper plates so they’d know where to place the pieces of each color. We made use of our EZPZ Flower Mats as they are easy to clean off glue stick residue and the little petal cups were perfect to hold these light tissue paper scraps that tend to fly around with the slightest wave of the hand.
This was Hailey’s first time using a glue stick and she was very excited! We love these chunky glue sticks as they go on purple so kids can see where they applied the glue, but dry clear.
Instructions were simple. Stick the pink tissue paper scraps on the inside of the circle and the green ones on the outside. Ball up some black ones and add them on the pink as seeds.
Hailey is still learning her colors so she needed a little extra help but she mostly did the project on her own.

After they dried I cut them into fourths, punched a hole up top and wrote names of the party guests on them slices.
Each watermelon paper plate gift tag was tied to the party favors and ready to be handed out on the party day. This year the girls got Shimmer and Shine Shrinky Dinks and the boys got Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shrinky Dinks. The babies each got a set of these cute animal squirter bath toys.
