You may remember that I’m still in my first year of my sewing machine journey, having made only a few quilted items using my new-to-me Singer sewing machine. I thought it would adorable to create my own piece of cutesy Halloween design and designed this fun candy corn shelf sitter to don my shelves!

Candy Corn Shelf Sitter Supplies:
- Poly-Fil Low Loft Quilt Batting
- Fabric – white, orange and yellow
- Sewing Machine
- Rotary Cutter
- Ruler
- Iron
- Sewing Clips
- Scrap paper
- Pencil
- Tailor’s chalk or marking pen

First, make a template by laying down any Christmas tree decor item you have on a piece of scrap paper and trace a wide triangular candy corn shape, slightly wider than your tree.

Next, cut 3 strips of fabric and pin two of them with the right sides together. Run through the machine to attach then repeat with the third piece. Do this in the traditional candy corn color of white on top, then yellow then orange.

Use an iron to press the seams flat.

Lay the candy corn template on the wrong side of the quilted material and trace it. Then flip over the template and trace a second one, on the same wrong side of the fabric.

Lay out your Low Loft Quilt batting and repeat the above steps of tracing the template to create two pieces that will mirror each other when put together.

Cut out all the shapes. Now pin the quilted candy corn fabric pieces with their right sides together with the quilted pieces on the top and bottom. Run this through your sewing machine, making sure to back stitch on the ends.

Once completed, trim extra quilt batting from the edges slightly before turning right side out.

You have now created a quilted candy corn cover you can slip over your Christmas tree! This extends the life of this piece of holiday decor into earlier months!

Repeat these steps to create additional quilted candy corn decor to use in October or consider mixing up the colors to create an Indian corn look with other color ranges, like purple, brown or deep reds.
