Since we were reusing lots of things from Brielle’s newborn life, there wasn’t too much for me to do to get ready for Hailey. Instead I focused on decorating her nursery during my early nesting phase. I already shared the super fun Seahorse String Art to be hung on the wall but there was still room for more!

Luckily, I had some leftover canvases from previous painting experiences, which Derek reluctantly happily primed for me one night. I put down a base coat using a dry brush technique and my Sea Aqua and Whispering Turquoise Deco Art Americana acrylic paints.

Next, I created a rough template of an octopus on a piece of scrap paper. After tracing it with a white colored pencil (which I thought would be easier to cover up than regular pencil), I painted the shape using my Lilac and Wild Orchid paints. Once again, I was thoroughly impressed that I only needed one coat to cover one color over another since this paint is JUST THAT GOOD!

After that dried, I knew my little octopus wall art still needed something… and decided sparkle and texture was it! I watered down some tacky glue and painted it on some select spots of the octopus. A light sprinkle of crystal fine glitter gave it the sparkle I was looking for.

Button collection from Great Great Grandma aka "Nana" | spotofteadesigns.com

Next I went to my collection of “Nana’s buttons” for some other accents. I got this collection from Derek’s Gramma when she was moving out of her house, as it was her mother’s. I love the selection of sizes and shapes and have already pulled from it for a craft previously made for Brielle’s first St. Patrick’s Day. Now it was Hailey’s turn to have something from Nana’s collection. (Side note: it’s totally fitting to have something in her room from Nana, whose name was really Antonette as Hailey’s middle name is Ann, named after her and my grandma MaryAnn!)

Iridescent buttons for eyes and tiny ones for tentacles added just the texture I was looking for! I love how this playful octopus wall art turned out, especially with the little accents that helped bring more texture into this small room.

This is perfect for my nursery. Have you ever consider making these and selling them on Etsy? I would buy them.
