Under the Sea Nursery | The Full Reveal

in Bedroom, Home Decor & Landscaping

Not all Under the sea themed nurseries need to scream aquatic right from the get go! Check out one nautical themed nursery for a little girl, filled with soft blues, pinks and purples and hints of some under the sea themed flair! Please scroll down to the bottom to see the sources for items shown.

As a reminder, this was previously my craft room which was already painted blue (Tropical Breeze by Behr for all those who keep asking). I wanted to keep the blue walls, despite the fact that were having a girl and the whole Under the Sea concept merged!

Under the sea nursery tour | spotofteadesigns.com

Let’s go on a tour led by Hailey, the occupant of this room.

Since we made over Derek’s old bedroom set last summer, we were able to give all of Brielle’s baby furniture to Hailey (though the crib came much later since we kept Brielle in it as long as possible)!

The shelves, which previously held ribbons and other crafting materials, now held some little doodads for Hailey’s room.  Sure a monkey doesn’t go with the “Under the Sea” theme but this purple guy fit with the colors and it has special significance. His tag was the first I designed way back at my first job right out of college so he’s something to be proud of.

Also, I am not a fan of traditional diaper caddies or those that hang on the wall, but instead love a pretty basket filled with all the essentials. This way I can repurpose this basket for something general after we’re out of the diaper zone!

My DIY Growth chart hangs on the wall to measure our growing girl! I painted it with an ombre effect with outlined seashells shapes on top to bring in more of that beachy vibe.

Over her crib you’ll find the Ombre letters I painted spelling out her name.

I love that this girl literally sleeps surrounded by art!

In that back corner hangs a frame of Hailey’s birth stats, made by my friend Liz,who perfectly matched the colors and theme of Hailey’s room! You gotta love someone with an attention to detail!

These curtains are the same as those in Brielle’s room, but in purple. They are my one splurge in the room and I love how well they work as a blackout curtain for sleepytime! Liz’s sweet mom, Nikki, graciously shortened and hemmed them so they’d no longer cover the only vent in the room positioned under the window.

An extra special touch is hung on top – this fun fabric bunting from yet another Handmade gift creator friend, Elizabeth! I’m a big fan of the different patterns that work in this space and how it breaks up the large block of purple on that back wall.

Behind the glider are all the wall art items I made for her before she arrived, that really make this an under the sea nursery. Click on each link to find the tutorials for the count the waves quote art, seahorse string art, octopus mixed media canvas, and ship wheel mirror previously seen here on the blog. They all use Deco Art acrylic paint, which gives great coverage on canvas or wood, as seen here. I love this little art corner and often found Hailey starting up at these creations as she nurses.

Next to these pieces of art is my bookshelf that previously held all my scrapbooks when this was my craft room. In fact this was what was holding up the reveal as we JUST got them out of here recently with the creation of our fauxdenza in the foyer.  The bookshelf is secured to the wall and now includes both milk crates for toys and open areas for books and knickknacks.

The bottom cubes holds a few of her current favorites that she can pull out and play with whenever we’re upstairs. In case you’re wondering, she drags totes around this Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Puppy often, is constantly putting the blocks from her Fisher Price Baby’s First Blocks in and out of the container and is always flipping through her Osborne books including That’s not my Teddy. You can also see that we’re big fans of Munchkin snack catcher to lessen the risk of a complete mess and like most containers in her house, it’s rocking our Name Bubbles label!

On top you’ll find the sound machine I HIGHLY RECOMMEND to drown out of the noises of the home, especially when you have more than one kid in it! The top shelf holds a fun initial book I found at Michaels on clearance and a soft rubber piggy bank given by her Aunt Lauren last Christmas to start saving some change.

You’ll also notice our not very visually appealing but very functional pool noodle door stoppers here. They are some cheap baby proofing essentials to stop her or her sister from locking themselves in their room or closet! (You can find a full list of the other, more official baby proofing items we used in our house here.)

(Did you spot the photo bomber in the mirror above? hehe)

And lastly, on her door hangs the wooden “H” door hanger I recently made her.

I adore this room!! That growth chart is everything! So creative. I haven’t don’t much with my youngest’s room but I have all these ideas for filling her empty walls. Maybe when she’s in school more full time I’ll get to it haha
