The Halloween season is becoming really fun this year with a 3 year old in the house and a 3 year old niece nearby. They’re all about everything pumpkin, are getting excited to don costumes and understand the concept of special treats happening around this time of year. Last week I threw a little play date with a delicious concept in mind: making monster brownies!

First things first, I needed to make the brownies and for that I ventured out to my weekly little piece of heaven, Target.
Their Halloween section rocks this year and the baking section did not disappoint either!
I grabbed a box of Pillsbury™ Funfetti® Halloween Premium Brownie Mix, a container of Pillsbury™ Funfetti® Halloween Vanilla Flavored Frosting and a few other goodies for our monster making session.
Brielle loves being “a good helper,” especially in the kitchen, so we spent some time together before the play date mixing up the brownie base for our monsters.
I am totally in love with how easy and yummy baking mixes are, especially ones that already include the colors of the season like these! I put each ingredient in a bowl and let her mix them in. So simple!
She was so proud to help make these with me and Hailey was just excited to see the mixer go round and round!
When it came time to craft up some monster brownies I made it simple and put an assortment of toppings in a muffin tin.
This was the girls’ first experience using a plastic knife and trust me, us mommies were paying close attention! We were both so pleasantly surprised to see how well they both did to spread the vanilla frosting on top.
Next we let them explore the toppings. I had made a few example monster brownies to show them as reference but they did not need them!
The both dove right in crafting up some monsters! We encouraged them to try and include the basics like eyes (as many or little as you want) and a smile and let them do whatever they wanted with hair, noses or even eyebrows. Each girl made two monster brownies and us mommies were so proud at the outcome!
It was fun to see what they came up with and now we have a really fun memory of our first family food crafting session, thanks to Pillsbury!
And to recap how easy it was, here’s your super simple recipe:
- Mix Pillsbury Funfetti Halloween Premium Brownie Mix to bake brownies according to the directions on the box.
- Once cool, cut into shapes.
- Spread Pillsbury Funfetti Halloween Vanilla Flavored Frosting on top.
- Decorate with an assortment of toppings then enjoy!
Whether it’s a play date with toddlers or a big Halloween bash, I encourage you to consider a monster brownie making station and see what everyone crafts up!
