Did you know that June is National Camping Month? If you’re not up for an outdoor adventure just yet, whip together this felt campfire playset so you can bring the warmth of the fire inside safely!

DIY Felt Campfire Playset
- Felt – Red, Orange, Yellow, Light Brown, Dark Brown, Light Grey, Dark Grey
- Poly-Fil Polyester Fiber Fill
- Embroidery Thread
- Campfire Playset Template
- Fabric Scissors
- Tailor’s chalk
- Sewing Clips

Print the campfire playset template and cut out each of the shapes.

Trace onto the coordinating pieces of felt. Tip: I’ve really liked using this set of tailor’s chalk I got for my fabric crafts as the chalk is so thin to follow these templates easily and comes in different colors which works for light or dark fabrics.

Cut out the coordinating shapes in the amounts listed.

To create your felt logs in this campfire playset, first stitch “wood grain” patterns into the brown base pieces and a curly shape into the ends using dark brown embroidery thread.

Stitch the yellow and orange flame layers to the campfire, as shown.

Next, pair the fronts and backs together of the flame and rocks, using sewing clips to hold them closed. For the rocks, sew around the edges, leaving a small opening.

Now is the fun part to see how much stuffing these felt rocks actually hold. Add a lot to make it a “hard” rock (that if, of course, still soft for play). Poly-Fil is a great material that can fit together loosely to create softer shapes or more tightly to create more shapely and firm, yet softer shapes.

To create the log, first sew together the base to create a cylinder design. Next, sew the end piece on one end before stuffing it to your heart’s desire with more Poly-Fil!

Once stuffed to the max, sew the other end on to create a soft log.

After sewing the front and back of the flame together, sew the red oval end to the bottom, again leaving a small opening before filling with Poly-Fil. Sew closed to complete your flame!

A grey piece of felt can be laid flat on the bottom and you can start building your campfire with the rocks around the outside.

Gather your pieces, arrange them as shown and voila!

Your campfire playset is ready for lots of indoor play in the early mornings before coffee or rainy days when you can’t be in the real outdoors.
