For my oldest’s first birthday, we gifted her a wooden play kitchen that was LOVED for YEARS! I loved that it had large storage areas to hold all those sets of play kitchen cooking pots, utensils and, of course, play food. While there’s lots of cute play food out there, sometimes you can’t find every theme you’re looking for, so why not make your own?
Thanks to my friends at Fairfield World, I have A LOT of Poly-Fil hanging around and love to come up with new ways to craft with it. While I have done crafts with it used on the outside of the craft to make cloud like creations, the traditional use is meant as a filler, making things light and fluffy. This time I around, I thought back to the times when my kids were little playing in that kitchen and decided to craft up some DIY Felt Breakfast Foods in case other moms or grandmas wanted to make a set for their little ones.

DIY Felt Breakfast Food Supplies
- Felt
- Breakfast Food Template
- Fabric Scissors
- Embroidery Thread
- Poly-Fil Polyester Fiber Fill
- Straight Pins
First, print out the template and cut out all the pieces.

Cut each of the shapes on the coordinating felt colors, noting which need 2 of that color for the front and back of the breakfast food. Tip: If you want more than one of a certain food, like a stack of silver dollar pancakes, make sure to cut them out now.

Use pins or clips to hold the sets together and being sewing around the outside of each shape, leaving a small opening. Choose whichever sewing stitch you want, like a straight stitch or blanket stitch.

Stuff in your fluffy Poly-Fil filling it with as much or as little as you want. If you’re a fan of fluffier pancakes add more Poly-Fil!

You now have a fun assortment of felt breakfast foods ready to be played with by your kids!

Pair these eggs and bacon pieces with play frying pans, plates or forks to encourage creative playtime in the kitchen or playing house.

There’s also options for your creative play with this set. Layer red strawberry jam or purple grape jelly on your pieces of toast.

Or add a splash of syrup on the pancake stack and the pads of butter can go on the pancakes or your toast!
If you end up creating a set of these felt breakfast foods for your kids, I hope you’ll tag me so I can see how fluffy you made your pancakes!
