Have you been seeing this painted acrylic trend pop up on Instagram as much as I have? I see it used a lot for events, like a seating chart, but it’s just a fun to add a pop of color in your own home, just for your family to see! I’ve been dying to give this painted acrylic sign a try since I had a few leftover pieces of acrylic from a recent project.
Often when you get acrylic pieces they are covered in a film and in this case, it was blue, as seen above.
I designed a phrase in Illustrator (which I’ve made available to you free as an svg file) and broke out my Cricut Maker to cut it on a cream colored adhesive vinyl.
After weeding and cutting the words apart in order to lay them out correctly, I was able to add them to one side of the acrylic pieces using transfer tape. Again, I can’t say enough about the Cricut 5 piece basic tool kit that helped me with this project as I used the scrapper, weeding hook and scissors to get this part done!
Next, I flipped it over and gave it a little quick swipe of paint with my Deco Art acrylics. I only did one layer of paint on this one as it was my first time ever doing this, but in the future I will probably do a second one on the back to give it a little deeper coverage. I really love how it came out, especially the dry brush like swipes at the ends!
Once dry, I flipped it over and placed this painted acrylic sign as my fall mantle centerpiece! It was a fun way to bring in a little color and a fall message without too clunky of a piece. There’s no doubt I’ll be making another of these in the future!
