Craft your own Happy birthday banner for your rainbow birthday party! See how to use colorful cardstock colors, foam adhesive and the free SVG file offered to create a fun party accessory for cheap!

As you know, my girls share a birthday so we truly only have to throw one party a year. This year, however, was different than most with this whole pandemic and we decided to do a couple of smaller hangouts in order for them to see friends or family to celebrate. We’ve kept our circle small since the spring and decided to host one small backyard, outdoor get together with a rainbow theme chosen by the girls.
I didn’t go overboard with decor, but wanted to make the dessert table cute so I crafted up a colorful rainbow happy birthday banner from cardstock to hang in the back. While everyone was mostly outside and not really going to see it, the party stylist in me couldn’t resist in crafting something up, even if it’s just for the cute photos I take of the girls before their guests show up!
Supplies:
- Cricut Maker
- Cardstock
- Beacon Zip Dry
- Foam adhesive
- Ribbon
- Happy Birthday SVG (available free for you!)
Upload the file in Cricut Design Space and cut the colorful pieces from cardstock, according to the file.
Remove each piece using the spatula tool to prevent bending or curling. I can’t speak highly enough of the 5 piece basic tool set from Cricut when crafting with cardstock and vinyl!
I created a little rainbow arch on the first and last banner piece and added numbers for the ages my girls are turning. The numbers aren’t included in the SVG file but something you could certainly add on your version!
To assemble I tried out my new bottle of ZipDry glue from Beacon that I was gifted earlier in the spring on the layers of letters themselves. It’s made specifically for cardstock items and with a small nozzle hole was easy to guide on the areas I needed it applied. It dried quickly and clear and I was very happy with this new adhesive medium!
I used foam adhesive squares to lift each of the layered letters on the banner backers to create a little dimension.
I designed this rainbow birthday banner to include holes that are die cut with the Cricut machine so I didn’t need to punch holes after this was all assembled. It just needed a little ribbon.
The girls were excited for this colorful backdrop as part of their birthday celebration and I love the shots I got of them to celebrate this colorful year!
