Batter up! The fall softball season is over and the spring season is not yet here but there’s time to celebrate your player’s love for the game by making cute plush monogram softball ornaments for their tree!

This is a fun craft for moms or for kids who are old enough to handle a REAL needle. My 9 and 11 year olds created theirs while I supervised, and are happy to have them on their tree this season and make their thread long enough to hang on their door handle once the holiday season is over.
Plush Monogram Softball Ornament Supplies:
- Felt – Yellow if you’re doing softball or white if you want to make a baseball version
- FREE Monogram Letter Template
- Poly-Fil® Premium Fiber Fill 32 ounce Bag
- Scissors (these are my favorite for cutting felt)
- Embroidery Thread – yellow or white, but also red
- Embroidery Needle
- Ribbon
- Small Bowl (for tracing)
- Water Erase Pen
First, print the monogram letter template and cut out the letters you want to use for your project.
Next trace 2 of these shapes on your felt. Tip: if you choose to use a different pattern or printed fabric on the back, make sure you turn the template over to trace the shape going the other direction!
Once cut, you’ll need to draw the stitching marks so you know where to sew. Place a bowl on the corner of the letter and trace. Once you life it, draw little arrows around the curve, like a softball stitch.
Repeat on the other corner of the letter, with stitching going the same direction.
Next thread red embroidery thread on your needle and stitch the pattern shown with a backstitch.
Once complete on both sides, layer your front and back pieces together and use a blanket stitch around the outside to sew them together. Tip: sew and secure the hanging ribbon in place during this step.
Leave a small opening and stuff some Poly-Fil inside before closing the hole and completing your ornament.
I crafted up a few of these as gifts but then my girls wanted to get involved and make their own for their mini trees in their room! I was so impressed by their ability to focus and create this cute craft, and they were both excited to use a real needle for the first time! (with supervision of course).
If desired, finish by adding small velvet ribbons. I can always find these at Walmart or Dollar Tree during the holidays.
This plush monogram softball ornament makes a great gift, a cute hangtag on a present, a fun craft for softball teammates, or a cute door hanger for a bedroom.
You can, of course, also use white felt and create baseball monogram letters using this same template.
Btw, if you have a softball player in your life, make sure to check out my post of my favorite items for a softball player, which includes many stocking stuffer size gifts!
If you end up making these using my template, please tag me as I’d love to see your work!
