I LOVE me a scrap buster project! Everything you see in this patriotic wall hanging was made from things I already owned and repurposed to dress up our living room besides my $2 purchase of a long wood dowel rod from Home Depot.

The inspiration for this all started, with my leftover bolts of OlyFun from my patriotic pom poms. This material is just so nice to use because it does NOT fray when being cut so it holds the shape and it’s pretty sturdy.

After creating my diy parade pom poms, I thought the color combos together would look great to create a patriotic display and I loved those thin fabric strips.

Cut long pieces of ribbon 12 – 18″ long.

Layer 2 stars on top of each other and insert in a piece of ribbon. Use clips to hold together as a you stitch with a blanket stitch around the outer edge. Make sure to leave a small section open and insert in pieces of Poly Fil to your desired fluffiness. Tip: use a pencil or wood dowel to push the stuffing into the tips of the stars. Sew closed.

Cut long strips of your Oly Fun material right off the bolt. It doesn’t matter if it’s not totally straight cuts and in fact the differences in widths adds to the texture and dimension of this piece.

Fold an OlyFun strip in half under a wood dowel and insert the two tails into loop. Pull to secure onto the dowel. Tip: vary the lengths of the strips to create more texture when hung.

Repeat to fill the dowel with these strips alternating the colors and the lengths of the strips.

Tie the ribbon with the plush stars onto the wood rod.
