Party Animals Party | How To Make A Balloon Arch

in Birthday, Celebrations

Looking to achieve that fun balloon arch trend you see at all those Pinterest worthy parties but worried it’s too hard to make? I’m here today to tell you that it’s much easier than you think! Discover the step by step process to make a DIY balloon arch to make a big impact for any party theme!

I’ve had the honor of styling parties for a few years now and I’ve made quite a few balloon arches! When planning my daughters’ joint Party Animals Party last month, they generous provided me some basics to create a DIY balloon arch for my dessert table!

As you may remember, I had just moved into the home FIVE DAYS before the party and while I did for a little planning and crafting the month before, I didn’t want to have too much to fuss over the day of the party. This DIY balloon arch comes together fairly quickly with the help of just a few items!

Supplies:

  • Balloon Strip
  • Balloons
  • Command Hooks

Seriously that’s all the supplies you need! Anything extra, like decorative pieces to mix in through the arch, is just a bonus and can be customized to any theme.  The best part about this balloon arch? No helium is required!

First, blow up the balloons. Sure you can do it with your mouth but I promise you’ll thank me for the cheap investment in an electric balloon pump! If you’re planning to do it the night before a party, blow them slightly larger than you think as latex balloons don’t hold their air very long. Also note that you don’t want the balloons too big for your arch! Smaller balloons, and different sized balloons really do look best in this fun party decoration.

Cut a balloon strip slightly longer than you want for your area and use command strips to hang it up. Tip: Use extra command strips to help hold up the weight. Also consider if you want an arch, a framed shape where the balloons hang down on both sides or the trendy style of an arch up high on one side and down low on the other.

The balloon strip has different sized holes spaced out through the center. Insert a balloon through the hole, past the knot to secure.

Insert different sized and colored balloons throughout the strip.

I tend to do the bigger ones first, choosing specific hole placements (like every third hole) then I fill in with smaller balloons in the other holes. Keep playing around with it and you’ll see how to fill in the gaps and make it so you don’t see the balloon strip at all in your party space.

This balloon arch looks great over a dessert table and works well both with a blank solid wall or with a fun pattern behind it!

It helps to bring in color and theme in an otherwise neutral space.
