You may remember that my sister-in-law Lauren and I were due just two weeks apart but her little one came early and mine came late. These two girls, who live only 15 minutes from one another, may grow up more like sisters than first cousins. Just two weeks before Brielle’s Pinwheel First Birthday Party, we celebrated my niece Brinley’s milestone first birthday with a Minnie Mouse themed event! Lauren and Frank did a great job including little special touches and bigger efforts to accommodate their big celebration for their little girl.
This party happened over 7 months ago but it’s very appropriate to share today since its the first day that we are down in Disney with them!
Decorations:
Upon entering Frank’s mom’s backyard, guests saw a fun pink pinwheel display going up the steps.
These are all purchased from Oriental Trading.
Once getting into the party space, guests were greeted with a fun display all about Brinley! Lauren hung photos of our growing girl using crepe paper and a hot glue gun to show “The Year of Brinley.”
A time capsule project was displayed for guests to complete.
When it came time for cake, Brielle’s special spot was all dolled up too. A “Happy Birthday Brinley” banner (purchased from the Niu Designs Etsy Shop) hung up above her seat for that fun photo op.
And for those close up shots, you could see a cute Minnie Mouse “one” banner hung off her highchair purchased from the Pretty Little Clippie Etsy Shop.
Even though Brinley wasn’t in the mood to sing or eat cake, she still looked super cute in the decorated spotlight!
Food & Drink:
What’s a party without the food? Guests chowed down on delicious pulled pork, ribs, chicken and brisket from Local Smoke BBQ. They came to the party with their smoker to serve the food fresh and warm on site! Other special extras, like Frank’s Mom Mom’s mac and cheese complimented the meat selection. YUM!
The highlight of the party had to be the desserts! Lauren baked and decorated Brinley’s “B” Smash cake while Frank’s cousin Christine made a sheet cake, cupcakes and a slew of other delicious goodies. (You may remember Christine’s baking magic seen with Lauren’s Rubber Duckie Baby Shower cake and Mikey’s summer party years before. She is talented!!) It was adorned with a fondant bow purchased at Angel Cakes Etc Etsy Shop (which unfortunately doesn’t seem to be taking orders as of this posting).
Christine kept the Minnie Mouse theme going with chocolate covered Oreos cookies and Rice Krispies treats in the traditional two eared shape.
Other yummy creations, like chocolate covered pretzels and candy coated chocolate covered bananas on a stick, added to the already decadent dessert display. The frozen bananas were so simple to make! Freeze bananas then dip in melted chocolate and toppings of choice. These ones were decorated with coconut, walnuts, mini m&m’s, and rainbow sprinkles and were a HIT with the kids and the adults!
Favors:
Since it was a summer birthday and Brinley and her mommy love the beach, the kids went home with personalized beach buckets filled with a beach ball, water gun, and gold fish crackers. Brielle happily carries around her bucket to collect rocks, leaves and flowers in our backyard ever since!
Lauren ends by saying “It was a fantastic day will filled lots of wonderful food surrounded by all of our family and friends.”
I can’t wait to see what they do next year for Brinley’s GOLDEN BIRTHDAY!!
