When looking for a fun craft activity for tweens or teens for a party, hangout or just a Sunday morning, consider bringing back the art of bedazzling! This Locker Magnet bedazzling craft activity combines two of the current favorite things – bedazzling and photos of friends! See how to convert this satisfying craft into an activity for a party using these tips.
At the end of the summer my daughters turned 11 and 13 (on the same day) and we held a small hang out before the school year started. In lieu of a cake, we did an ice cream sundae bar and to entertained them a bit, I wanted to make a craft project that would be approved by girls in both age groups. I came up with the fun activity of to bedazzle locker magnets that hold a photo with a craft station and it was a HIT!
Locker Magnet Bedazzling Supplies:
- Bedazzling Kit – 5 mm
- 15 Piece Fridge Magnetic Packs
- Flat Back Flower Charms
- Wax Crayons (only used to pick up the gems)
- Instax Camera and Film
- Die cut vinyl frames cut with a Cricut (Grab my FREE SVG CUT FILE here!)
- Miscellaneous flat back alphabet beads and charms
Prior to the party, we cut some of these frames on adhesive vinyl with my Cricut machine. The idea would be that everyone could choose a frame and learn how to use transfer tape to add it to their acrylic frame to start. We also removed all the plastic wrap from the acrylic frames themselves so they were prepped and ready at their seat.
We also opened up the bedazzling bead kits and put each of the cells into these little containers we found at the dollar store. This allowed them to pass around the containers to share and not mix colors in the plastic grid it came in. (tip: to put them back in later, we used a wide mouth funnel)
We already had the Instax camera and extra film so upon entering the party, each of the birthday girls took a photo with their friend and we set them aside to brighten up. For this craft, each guest was able to make two locker magnets so we encouraged a second shot with another friends they might have there or they could add an instax picture from home.
Next, friends opened their magnetic frame to slip the photo inside, placing the acrylic cover back on top.
Each station included a paper plate (to craft on but also carry their crafts home on), paper towel (to put their glue on if it was open but not in use), wax crayon (to help lift the gems and put them in place and a glue to share.
Everyone then spent time decorating their magnetic locker magnet using the charms, bedazzling gems and alphabet beads from our collection. They shared tools, glue and the containers of beads. They traded different flower charms, helped looked for different letters in the alphabet beads and just focused on their own designs at their seats.
Friends spelled out their names, the school names or didn’t use alphabet stickers at all. It was so fun to see how creative they wanted to get or how much they wanted to fill the space with the bedazzling gems. They spent about an hour crafting these up, sharing tricks and tips with their neighbors as they crafted. After the party, I got many texts from moms sharing how much their daughter loved the activity and looked forward to putting it in their lockers.
