Welcome to a tour of my favorite room in the house – my home office and craft room! This space is a combination of both as it fits the needs of my hobby life, mom life and work life. I literally work in here EVERY day whether it’s crafting up an element for a party shoot, staging a beauty shot for my etsy shop or working on a family photo book on the computer. Many have seen glimpses of this space on my instagram but today I’m prepared to give you the full craft room tour with all the resources at the bottom!

Craft Room Tour - part 2: workspace and storage tour, even with opening the cabinets and doors! | spotofteadesigns.com

Before you go any further, check out this first part of the tour!

Craft Room Tour - before photo from when we moved in and the after on what it looks like now| spotofteadesigns.com

It documents how we started with this beige room with an orange floor and how my handy hubby transformed it into a more modern space with white walls, wide wood planks and taller baseboard moulding.

Craft Room Tour - ikea kitchen pantry cabinets as office storage | spotofteadesigns.com

My favorite part about this room is that it’s bright, functional, organized and it’s MINE! While there are plenty of kids craft items in here, the girls don’t yet have free range of the space and are only allowed to access what I give them.

Craft Room Tour - ikea kitchen pantry cabinets as closed craft room storage | spotofteadesigns.com

I’ve seen plenty of craft spaces where all the items are colorful and in full access, on display but I KNEW that my items would not look like that. It would look like a chaotic mess so I was pushing and LOVE this closed storage route.

Craft Room Tour - doors open to cabinets to showcase vinyl labels| spotofteadesigns.com

We went with these tall Ikea Sektion kitchen cabinets with upgraded Bodbyn Gray fronts, which we knew would be strong enough to hold my hearty supply of crafts and office materials.

Craft Room Tour - vinyl labels on drawers | spotofteadesigns.com

We ended up buying the high cabinets, shelves, and drawers separately, instead of in the bundles Ikea offers, as I really wanted to have a custom configuration inside.  I use every space, including the low skinny spots on the bottom for all my colorful trays for party staging.

Craft Room Tour - paint drawer | spotofteadesigns.com

Drawer labels were added using adhesive vinyl and my Cricut machine. Inside is not necessarily pretty. Sure an assortment of paint in rainbow order is fun, but most other drawers contain bagged items.

Craft Room Tour - vinyl labels | spotofteadesigns.com

The ribbon drawer, for example, has all different types of ribbons, threads or twine which are bagged by color. And honestly I never zip the bags shut! They just stand up like this!

Craft Room Tour - ribbon drawer | spotofteadesigns.com

This system works great for me as I pull out what I need and can push the slow close drawers back to hide everything back up! And since all these bags are standing up in the drawer, I don’t even bother zipping them back closed.

Craft Room Tour - top cabinets open to showcase storage capacity | spotofteadesigns.com

To the left of the cabinets is a tall laundry basket I use to hold all my rolled materials, like solid paper backdrops, freezer paper, or contact paper. Derek, wisely, didn’t want to block any of the 2 vents in this room so we didn’t have room for any other cabinet space.

Craft Room Tour - Cricut machine storage | spotofteadesigns.com

To the right, he recently added shelves to hold my Cricut machines. One shelf also holds my (color coordinated) bin of paper scraps. These are also decent sized paper pieces that I can pull out for any project. Down the road the girls will have full access to this scrap bin as I’m sure it will come into use for school projects!

Craft Room Tour - white crates for additional storage | spotofteadesigns.com

While they do make taller cabinets, we didn’t want them to overpower the space so we left some room up top. I got these simple white crates at Target which handle some overflow items or craft blanks.

Craft Room Tour - fabric bin | spotofteadesigns.com

Whenever possible, supplies have been arranged in rainbow order. :)

Craft Room Tour - desk workspace | spotofteadesigns.com

The workspace setup allows me to have both a computer station and a crafting station (or later, 2 seats for the girls to come craft). I plan to change out these chairs (which currently belong in our dining room) and add a shelf over the computer down the road. Maybe I’ll need to do a part 3 of this craft room tour!

Craft Room Tour - custom mouse pad | spotofteadesigns.com

The monitor is mounted to the wall and the keyboard and mousepad can both easily be moved for more crafting space on this large desk surface! I often spin the monitor towards the crafting side to watch Netflix shows as I craft.

Craft Room Tour - workspace desk pegboard | spotofteadesigns.com

Over the crafting side of the table I added the Skadis pegboard with an assortment of of everyday tools I use most. (Notice my favorite Cricut basic supplies set!) The clip holds any Etsy items I still need to shoot so they stay in my face as a reminder to prep them for sale.

Craft Room Tour - fauxdenza with art gallery wall | spotofteadesigns.com

The other wall opposite the large window includes a fauxdenza (previously created for the office in our other house). Hubby created this beautiful top which I LOVE and have previously used to stage a Pokemon and Graduation party!

Craft Room Tour - fauxdenza cabinets open | spotofteadesigns.com

You can find the full tutorial to make this fauxdenza using Ikea cabinets on the DIY Playbook blog. Most of these cabinets hold all my scrapbooks (which I made from 8th grade until the babies arrived), our family photobooks, and my vinyl rolls.

Craft Room Tour - family photo books | spotofteadesigns.com

The girls are often looking through these photobooks (which explains my #bloggerfail of not rearranging them in year order before shooting these photos!) I’m happy to have them accessible for them to flip through and admire all the photos we take all year.

Craft Room Tour - art gallery | spotofteadesigns.com

Above the fauxdenza, he also chopped down 2 floor boards and added metal clips (previously used in Brielle’s bedroom) to create a gallery wall. I can now hang some of their little drawings before I decide to archive it in their storage boxes or the recycling cans. I finished the look with this framed 16 x 20” Creativity takes Courage print I designed inside a beautiful frame from Custom Picture Frames.

Craft Room Tour - aprons for crafting | spotofteadesigns.com

We made the most use of the space behind the door, hanging our crafting aprons and smocks on command hooks and Cricut mats on the wall!

Craft Room Tour - view opening the door | spotofteadesigns.com

Does this space look like this all the time? 100% NO! Do I sometimes just shut the door to avoid putting things away. YES AGAIN! I do mess is up and I do have things everywhere, especially when I’m in party staging mode, but I also love that the hardwood floors vacuums up easily and everything (mostly) hides away when that crafting session is over.

Thanks for taking the craft room tour of this fun space I love! I’ve done my best to include resource info below but email or leave me a comment if I missed something of importance!

You don't have to be a professional party stylist You don't have to be a professional party stylist to put together a balloon garland for your party!
.
This weekend, we hosted a 70th birthday party for my dad, where I assembled a black and gold balloon garland gifted by @houseofparty.co. I was able to easily blow up the nice, thick balloons using my cheap balloon pump and hang it on my backdrop stands using all the materials supplied in their comprehensive hit.
.
Everyone was able to view the photos I hung around them and take pictures with the guest of honor with a fun backdrop.
