I have never claimed to be the fun mom who likes messy crafts. In fact that is my least favorite type of kids crafting to do. But at 10 and 12 years old my girls were ready for a new adventure into slime making!

Slime is easy enough to buy at a store, but you can also make it with just a few simple ingredients. Sometimes the “making” aspect of the craft IS just as much fun as the craft itself. With so much indoor time in the winter, it’s the perfect time to make some easy DIY Slime!

DIY Winter Supplies:

  • 4 oz (1/2 cup) of White Glue
  • 1/4 tsp Baking Soda
  • 2-3 tbsp Contact Solution with Boric Acid
  • Optional but fun: Poly-Fil Poly Beads
  • Optional but fun: food coloring
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Spoon or spatula

I mean why use anything except Elmer’s brand glue right? They also have lots of different options of already colored glues or glitter glue that can be a fun mix.

Pour the baking soda and contact solution in the bowl and mix it all up. Add food coloring if you choose (but I was personally afraid of staining). As it starts to mix together you can switch over to your hands.

Add in Poly-Fil Poly Beads. These are small white foam balls that are great lightweight fillers for certain crafts or used a their visual shape and resemblance to snow for other crafts.

Last year I made this fun snow globe and shadowbox frame filled with lots of fun Poly Beads.

In the case of this craft, you can also add them to slime for a fun tactile experience! And if you don’t feel like making your own slime following these instructions, you can easily add them to store bought slime to up the sensory game. They are fun to swish and mix around this goopy goo while stretching and squeezing through your fingers.

Now you have have a fun amount of DIY Slime that can be used for lots of squishing, stretching and playing. This would make a fun craft activity for a kid’s birthday party or just with friends. Consider other fillers, like sequins, small beads or character shaped materials. Wouldn’t a Halloween slime be so fun with plastic spiders? Or a Valentine’s Day slime with small hearts?

Whichever DIY winter slime mix you end up creating, make sure you keep it in an airtight container after creation so it can be enjoyed for a future day!

Tag me if you end up using this recipe (and the inclusion of Poly-Beads) to create your DIY slime!

Hello fellow readers! If you're looking for some r Hello fellow readers! If you're looking for some recommendations for historical fiction reads, here are 5 of my favorites I enjoyed last year that I'd recommend to readers who like this genre (with no spoilers):
.
The Frozen River by Arial Lawhorn – Takes place in the post American Revolution times, narrated by a midwife sharing her challenges in this profession and not being taken seriously but still having people trust her medical authority. It includes a murder and trial, which just reiterates how crazy it was to be a woman back then and their lack of rights!
.
The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel – Like many of her books, this author focuses on the French aspect of WWII, but this time as those who helped forge documents to help Jewish children cross the border.
.
The Nature of Fragile Things by Susan Miessner – Follow Susan Whalen who comes to San Francisco in 1906 as a mail order bride only to get into the middle of a complicated life after marrying a man she never met and things she discovers during a nature disaster in her state.
.
The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali – Starts in the 1950s in Iran where we meet two friends and follow their story through the historic time of this country. This fictional read shares more about the culture and limitations of women and those who try to change the government while struggling to maintain friendships.
.
The Rose Code by Kate Quinn – An assortment of female friendships during WWII as they work to break secret codes by the German military and continues to follow their stories through the years.
.
If you have a suggestion on another in this genre, please leave it in the comments so I can add to my TBR!
