Kids love to help in the kitchen, play pretend and Christmas so put all three of these loves together and create a felt Christmas cookie playset! Create your own decorative cookies using felt shapes and miscellaneous craft materials and watch the kids cook up a batch of these holiday treats all December long!

When my kids were little they LOVED to play family and play hands on imagination games. For Brielle’s 2nd birthday, we had gotten her this wood kitchen set that we all loved! As a mom, I liked it as it had all the functioning parts of the traditional kitchen setup, but the appliances opened big enough to actually be storage for all the components so we didn’t have to have a separate item for the fake foods. But one fake food was missing from our collection: Christmas cookies!

This year, I partnered with my friends at Fairfield World to create a DIY Felt Christmas Cookie Playset so you won’t have to go without this fun pretend play idea for your little ones. I was able to put their Poly-Fil Polyester Fiber Fill to good use and create a set of 8 felt Christmas cookies that can be paired with a cheap cookie tray and plastic spatula from the dollar store so they can have endless hours of pretend play fun!

DIY Felt Christmas Cookie Playset Supplies:
- Felt – Brown, White, Red, Green
- Christmas Cookie Playset Template
- Poly-Fil Polyester Fiber Fill
- Fabric Scissors
- Needle and Embroidery Thread – Brown, White, Red, Green
- Clips or straight pins
- Optional: buttons, pins, dimensional fabric paint
- Cookie Sheet and Plastic Spatula

First, print the Christmas Cookie Playset Template and cut out each of the shapes then cut out the coordinating shapes on the felt colors, as noted.

Sort all the pieces so you can form each cookie. Sew on any of the top colored icing components for the cookies with a running stitch. Add any decorative elements you want to add to the cookie designs. For this example, I sewed buttons and beads on two of the cookies as sprinkles and completed a striped stitch line on the candy cane design with red thread.

Complete the decorative layers to any of your cookies. I chose to add dimensional fabric paint on the cookies to look like more sprinkles and swirls of icing. Tip: allow this to dry overnight to make sure it’s fully set before the next step!

Next, pair up the Christmas cookie tops and bottoms, using pins to hold it together. Use a blanket stitch to sew these elements together, leaving a small opening. Insert some fluffy Poly-Fil into each cookies to give it a little shape. Everyone loves a nice and fluffy cookie, right?

Once complete, you’ll have a full set of 8 different shaped Christmas cookies that kids will love to play with all December!

And if you’re looking for more pretend play elements, I also created two pretend play icing bags in this set! First, layer the icing color on top of the bag then sew along the side to form a tube.

Sew along the top of the icing color with a running stitch, insert some more Poly-Fil then pull closed to make the iconic icing bag shape. This is VERY similar to how I created my faux carrots for Easter!

This would make an adorable gift for a young toddler (just be mindful of your choice of accessories to not make it a choking hazard)!
If you do end up grabbing my template and making your own versions, I’d love if you’d tag me so I can see how you dressed them for your little ones!
