When it comes to adult birthday parties, it’s hard to figure out what type of party favor makes sense. Candy is always welcomed but lottery tickets are much more fun! Check out the details of a recently 70th birthday party thrown and the printable party favors given out.

My father-in-law turns 70 years old today! Long time followers may remember that 10 years ago we threw him a surprise 60th birthday party!
It was a golf themed 60th birthday PAR-TEE and the origin of my DIY soda can cake that we gifted him and people have tagged me in for the past 10 years!
He had just recently gone through heart bypass surgery this summer so soda is no longer a staple for him. Instead, to celebrate this milestone year, we went with a retro vibe with some hints of guitars (a hobby of his) and threw him a surprise 70th birthday party!
The party was held at Amelia’s By The Sea in Spring Lake, NJ and I CANNOT say enough great things about the location, space and FOOD! It’s right across the ocean with a nice wrap around porch where you could go out and see the waves during our cocktail time. The staff was super attentive to our group of 40, especially for our two kid tables.
The bar was fully stocked for some cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres while we waited for the guest of honor, before we enjoyed the buffet lunch. If you head there for lunch or dinner one night, get the parmesean pork chops, which were delicious!
I was in charge of decorations and put together a little display of photos. I tried to find one for each year of his life, which included milestones, family vacations, and fun occasions. Everyone loved walking over and taking a look at the way my father-in-law has changed (or not changed) through the years. BTW, this is portable backdrop stand I used for this display and the shimmer panel filled one from the girls’ birthday this summer.
In trying to find the coordinating photos, I came across this shot on the left, of my Father-in-Law holding a homemade guitar shaped cake for his 24th birthday. My sister-in-law decided to duplicate it for this 70th birthday celebration and everyone got a kick out of this nostalgic photo I framed near the cake table.
These photos also came useful for the kid party favors of chocolate bar wrappers with the message “It was so SWEET of you to celebrate Jim’s 70th”. I’ve now added this Milestone chocolate bar wrap as an option to order from my etsy shop with your own photos and one of four colorways!
For the adults, we went with the good old reliable lottery tickets and I decided coordinating lottery ticket holders featuring his phase and a similar message.
There were 4 total yearbook photos used for the ticket holders and I loved them so much that I decided to open up this customize party favor option to my etsy shop. This would not be an instant download option, but instead one that requires you to share at least one yearbook photo as a digital file, birthday guest’s age and name, and I will create the file which you can download and print in a few days.
At one point in the party, everyone started to scratch their tickets and we had several winners!
It was a great afternoon to celebrate a great guy! Happy Birthday Jim!
