When it comes to birthday parties, one thing the kids look forward to most is the dessert! Learn how to turn an ice cream cone into a watermelon design using colored chocolate and sugary sprinkles and top it on your favorite bakery made or homemade cupcakes. Whether your party theme is “one in a melon”, “two-ti fruity” or just plain summer fun, these watermelon cone cupcakes would be a fun way to celebrate the birthday boy or girl.

We recently celebrated the 4th and 2nd birthday of my birthday twins with a watermelon themed birthday party. Learn how to make these fun chocolate covered watermelon cone cupcakes!
Supplies:
- Ice cream cones
- Pink melting chocolate
- Vegetable oil
- Green sprinkles (I used these Shred Sprinkles)
- Black Icing
- Cupcakes
- Green icing
Bake cupcakes and allow to cool. Top with green icing.
Lay a piece of wax paper on the countertop and place a drying rack on top. Melt pink chocolate. Tip: I always put a small amount of vegetable oil in it and use the defrost settings of my microwave in 30 second spurts to avoid burning.
Stick your fingers in the cone to hold it and spoon the pink chocolate to cover the cone. Shake slightly and allow as much of the chocolate to drip off as possible.
Add green sprinkles to the edge and set on the drying rack. I used these fun shred sprinkles which were the same I had used on my Easter dirt cups.
Once it’s dry, use black icing to add the seeds to complete your watermelon cone cupcakes.
Stick a watermelon cone on the cupcake and get ready to sing “Happy Birthday!”
To make them feel extra special I made both girls a mini little cake and stuck their cones on top.
Hailey figured out that instead of taking the cone out and getting chocolate all over your hands, the easier way to eat it was to just stand up and take a bite!
Luckily it was an outdoor party and the sprinklers were ready to wash off any sticky hands, faces and any other body parts that were covered in these yummy desserts!
Stay tuned for more ideas from our watermelon birthday party!
