Forget the store bought thank you cards! Enjoy a morning with a relaxing watercolor painting exercise with your kids where they can turn basic card bases into beautiful watercolor thank you cards! With just a little inspiration and guidance, this kids craft is great for kids of all ages!

For the past three years, my daughters and I have spent a summer morning or two crafting thank you cards for their summer birthday using a watercolor and ink technique.

I usually scour pinterest for some beginning watercolor design ideas and we kinda wing it on the final look. After a little tutorial and creating an inspiration card, the girls get to work making their own versions for family and friends.

Favorite Watercolor Card Making Supplies:
- Watercolor Half Pans with Water Brush
- Assorted watercolor paint brushes
- Card and Envelope Value Pack
- Inkline Pens

I think watercolor is a great medium for kids to try and it really proves that something can turn out beautiful even if it doesn’t start out that way. I love the patience they learn about applying a color and watching it bleed into another space and how you can “fix” the look with a little ink work in the end. They also discover how a little goes a long way and literal water can stretch the use of an art material.

These girls are so proud of their handmade creations and this mom is happy for them to follow the tradition of hand made thank you cards I’ve been doing for years, since my own bridal shower and even my baby shower for my oldest!
