An ombre, or gradient, pattern is really trendy right now in all types of industries! I’m seeing it in fashion, as in dip dyed clothing, hair styles, as in light browns to light blonde on the same head, and even party decor, like ombre cakes inside and out. So why not try this ombre pattern in cardmaking?
I dug back into this scrap bin of mine to see if I could arrange a smooth transition of color hues from my cardstock scarps. I found a set of yellows/oranges and purples that could work for a few cards.

I also went ahead and pulled out a punch I had that I haven’t used yet! It’s an EK Tools 2 in 1 Edger Punch. You can slide the little knob on the punch to cut solid butterflies or more detailed butterflies. And here’s a great tip about edge punches. Just because it’s an edge punch doesn’t mean you can’t cut apart the pieces and use them as a single accent.
That’s exactly what I did here, punching a single butterfly on each cardstock piece and arranging to create the ombre effect.
In the end I was able to add three new handmade cards to my always needed growing collection and used up some of my scraps in the process! I challenge you to try it!
