As the gift giving season is upon us again, I wanted to share a few gift wrapping ideas I’ve done over the years. Most of these are just cutesy ways to present a regular beloved item, like beer, and others are just a fun way to open up a gift card.
Some years Derek and I opted for the “just stockings” gift giving, due to other big purchase (like a bedroom set) or the fact that spent a lot of money on our wedding/honeymoon. Last year, I wrapped 3 ties I planned to give him like little holiday candies. Just roll them up and tie up the sides!
At Derek’s uncle’s house, we do a grab bag style holiday exchange where everyone brings a $25 gift then we take turns opening a new one or stealing from what was opened. Here’s a wreath design I made with 25 $1 lottery tickets. TIP: use temporary adhesive as to not damage any bar codes on back! (side note: the receiver ended up winning $27 off this wreath!)
You may remember the soda can cake I made my father in law for his 60th birthday. Now you can make your own with a favorite canned beverage.
Oh your loved one likes bottled beverages instead of cans? How about some reinbeers?
How about creating a little hidden pocket inside a hollowed out book?
Give a gift certificate inside a food container! If you’re spending a good chunk of change for a gift card, most places will let you also take the box or cup the actual product comes in to wrap it up!

This year I’m giving dinner and movie gift certificates. I ordered a paper popcorn bucket from oriental trading company and got some of those movie theater box candies to put it all together rather than just hand over two gift certificates.
