Despicable Me 3 is officially out in theaters so get kids excited about the next installment of this yellow and blue filled trilogy with quick and easy Minion Cupcakes! Whether homemade or store-bought, kids will love creating (and eating) these Minion cupcakes made with OREO cookies, chocolates and a dash of icing!
Brielle is a big fan of Despicable Me, or as she calls it “Minions movie.” Let’s be real, Gru is a funny character, but the Minions steal the show! While she has watched her share of movies at home (broken into two parts as she’s never watched a full length movie in one sitting) we think it’s finally time she’s ready for that experience. We plan to take her next month while at our beach house, so to get her excited we baked up these Minion cupcakes!
Supplies:
- Cupcakes with blue cupcake wrappers
- Yellow icing (Vanilla with yellow food coloring will do!)
- Regular OREO cookies
- Mini OREO cookies
- Chocolate chips
- M&Ms
- Black Icing
Spread yellow icing on the cupcakes.
Put OREO cookies on a plate and put in the microwave for all of 5 seconds. Twist slightly to cleanly remove the tops.
Place a regular sized OREO on top of the cupcakes and embellish the center with a brown M&M. Use black icing to draw a line on each side like their Minion goggles.
For the other designs, repeat the steps above but use two mini M&Ms and chocolate chips (with the pointed side down) to create the pupils of the eyes.
Kids will get a kick out of these super cute Minion cupcakes and us moms will be happy to learn they are pretty quick and easy to decorate!

It is such a great idea to use oreo’s for the eyes! My kids are on a big minion kick right now and I was looking for a cute and easy way to make a minion-themed treat but was stuck on how to make the eyes look good. Thanks for the inspiration!
