Mother’s Day Kids Craft: Painted Pots

in Celebrations, Crafts & DIY, Kids' Crafts, Mother's Day

A few weeks before Mother’s Day, my sister and I got our 5 kids together for some playtime and, of course, some craft time. With Mother’s Day right around the corner, we used this time to craft up a little project for their grandma: painted terracotta pots.

Our crew ranges from 7.5 months to almost 5 years old which means there would be quite an array of talents.

We donned most of them with smocks (Hailey didn’t paint this session but a day earlier), grabbed our Crayola Fingerpaints and set them up on our kid sized picnic table for their painting session.

They had fun painting their pots! Some used the paintbrush, some used their hands and some of them tried to eat it — JARED! (Two things I love about this shot – my diva of a daughter who paints in her sunglasses and Hailey’s photobomb!)

Hailey made hers the day before since I knew I’d need to help focus on the other kids with their project. It was Hailey’s first fingerpainting experience and she loved it! (reminder on Brielle’s first Fingerpaint experience which was also a Mother’s Day craft!)

During one of Hailey’s afternoon naps, Brielle and I collected our materials and got to work finishing our group gift.

Since these were likely to be an indoor gift, I went with some fun succulents since they seem to be all the rage these days! They do look fun together as a collection!

I knew it might be hard to tell who’s was who’s, so I also had the kids fingerpaint a piece of paper which I later turned into a little pinwheel name marker using this technique.

Usually I can’t share Mother’s Day gifts on the blog since my mom is an avid SOTD reader (hi MOM!), but we gave this group gift early at their anniversary party this past weekend. (#FutureBlogPostAlert)

LATEST GRAMS

Hello fellow readers! If you're looking for some r Hello fellow readers! If you're looking for some recommendations for historical fiction reads, here are 5 of my favorites I enjoyed last year that I'd recommend to readers who like this genre (with no spoilers):
.
The Frozen River by Arial Lawhorn – Takes place in the post American Revolution times, narrated by a midwife sharing her challenges in this profession and not being taken seriously but still having people trust her medical authority. It includes a murder and trial, which just reiterates how crazy it was to be a woman back then and their lack of rights!
.
The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel – Like many of her books, this author focuses on the French aspect of WWII, but this time as those who helped forge documents to help Jewish children cross the border.
.
The Nature of Fragile Things by Susan Miessner – Follow Susan Whalen who comes to San Francisco in 1906 as a mail order bride only to get into the middle of a complicated life after marrying a man she never met and things she discovers during a nature disaster in her state.
.
The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali – Starts in the 1950s in Iran where we meet two friends and follow their story through the historic time of this country. This fictional read shares more about the culture and limitations of women and those who try to change the government while struggling to maintain friendships.
.
The Rose Code by Kate Quinn – An assortment of female friendships during WWII as they work to break secret codes by the German military and continues to follow their stories through the years.
.
If you have a suggestion on another in this genre, please leave it in the comments so I can add to my TBR!
