As a girl mom there isn’t many chances to play up some of these typical “boy themes” for birthday parties. When recently asked to style a Monster Truck party for Wholesale Party Supplies, I knew one thing – it would include lots of chocolaty desserts! I’ve been meaning to try out the number cake trend so this was the perfect opportunity to put these two thoughts together in one delicious dessert.
Monster Truck Cake Supplies:
- Cake mix
- Chocolate frosting
- White and Black Icing
- OREO cookies
- Edible candy rocks (I got this bag at Hobby Lobby but here’s a smaller container from Amazon)
- Monster truck toy (dollar store!)
As with most of my party styling assignments I try my best to be budget friendly, as I know most parents are like myself and want to throw a beautiful party but without a big spend. This one was no different and it involved a box cake mix to start. Follow the directions to bake up your cake flavor of choice in a 13×9 in pan.
Once cooled completely, trim to shape using a serrated knife and place onto a foil wrapped surface. Use the extra pieces not part of the number shape to help create a scene typical of this motorsport. Add dips or ramps.
Frost the cake using a frosting spatula. (Trust me that it works so much better than a plain butter knife!) TIP: Add wax paper under the edge of the cake so you’ll help to keep the surrounding surface clean while decorating.
Enlist the help of a nearby child to help you crush the OREO cookies in a zippered bag with a meat mallet. Use a mixture of these crushed cookies and edible rock candy to fill in the monster truck course.
Once complete, remove the wax paper from around the cake and surround it with fellow delicious chocolaty treats.
