What do you call the grandfather in your family? When I was growing up one was Grandpa Sal and we usually called my Grandpa Roy Pop Pop. Sadly they are no longer around but there are new grandpas in the family, including my dad who is also nicknamed Pop Pop! To celebrate the upcoming Father’s Day holiday in June, I designed a World’s Best Pop Pop Father’s Day Card that is all black pen work so the kids can color it in themselves!
This file is available to you as a free SVG cut file so your kids can color and craft up their own card for the Pop Pop in their life. I created this card using my Cricut Maker, as I used my fine point blade to cut the card, QuickSwap Tools Housing with Scoring wheel to score the card, and Cricut pen to draw the design on front.
First, download the SVG and upload to Cricut Design Space (Referred to as CDS from here on out) and note that there are three pieces to this card.
- The outer box will be the 5×7 folded card (so 10×7 rectangle cut).
- The score line in the middle
- The design in the front that is all grouped together for you.
Upon uploading and placing the SVG in CDS, the outer box of this 5×7 card did show as a black shape on my screen, but go ahead and click on it then choose the white color from the dropdown menu and it should show you the full items in the piece. You’ll also want to click on all the pieces and “ungroup” them so that you can work with each of these three pieces.
Choose the line in the middle, go up the dropdown menu and choose “score” to make this a score line.
Choose the “World’s Best Pop Pop” design on the front (which you should be able to select as one piece) and choose “pen” to make this an element that will be drawn with the Cricut pen.
Lastly select everything, right click and choose “attach.” This will ensure that the pieces are synced together when sent to the Cricut Maker to perform each action. You may also want to double check the final card dimensions here are 10×7, which you can see at the size area at the top.
Once you select “make it” and choose your material (in this case, cardstock) you will be prompted to add your pen to clamp A and your scoring blade to Clamp B. Upon sending it to cut you’ll see it first score, then use the pen to draw the World’s Best Pop Pop design and finally, it will prompt you to swap out the scoring wheel for the fine point blade to finish the final cut for the card shape.
Tip: When removing cardstock from your mat, curl your mat away from the cardstock to avoid curling the cardstock!
Now your World’s Best Pop Pop Father’s Day Card is ready to be colored in by the grandkids! Pair this card with crayons, markers, colored pencils or whatever art medium you prefer! In the end, the kids will be able to give grandpa a one of a kind card decorated by their own two hands!
