The back to school season is among us and with it are all sorts of deals on snacks and food to fill lunchboxes! While my girls are both fed food provided at their daycare on the 3 days a week they attend, we do make a lunchbox lunch almost everyday — my husband’s! Check out one way we have a family bonding experience each morning when making packed lunches for dad and see what snacks and special handmade notes they slip inside!
I’m sure our house is no different than most toddler homes with at least someone waking up earlier than the parents would like. After hopping in the shower, Derek takes the girls downstairs to start their breakfast and pack his lunch before he heads off on his hour and 15 minute drive to work.
Toddler parents also know there is very little we can accomplish these days without them wanting to be involved and making packed lunches is definitely one of those tasks! These two push over chairs to our countertop, help Derek get the items out of the refrigerator and cabinets and pack his lunch almost every day.
True, his sandwich undoubtedly has a bite taken out of it (it must be super tempting to create the meal for someone else when you haven’t had your own breakfast yet)!
But what isn’t touched are the convenient snack packs that are easy to include when putting together packed lunches.
Lately we’ve been filling his lunchbox with an apple, Lance peanut butter sandwich crackers and some Snyder’s of Hanover on-the-go packs of pretzels to hold him over for the day.
Synder’s of Hanover has been America’s pretzel bakery since 1909 and is full of lots of form and flavor variety. Brielle thought Derek’s favorite shape would be the snaps shape so she grabbed that style in their to go packs last time we hit the Target checkout line. Derek may tell you the cream cheese and chives flavor of Lance sandwich crackers are actually his favorite, but Brielle chose the protein packed peanut butter flavor last time she was in charge of getting our snack supplies. There’s a pretty big variety of these portable snacks so it’s pretty easy to find something for everyone!
To make these packed lunches extra special, I put together a few crafts the girls could decorate and slip inside to make him smile at lunchtime.
Handprint crafts are popular in this house so these “Hands Down. You’re the World’s Greatest Day” cards were a hit!
They also loved the “O-fish-ally #1 dad” designs that they decorated on their own with their fingerprints.
Download these free templates and have your kids include them in their dad’s packed lunches!
