DIY Zombie Shoes

in Celebrations, Crafts & DIY, Halloween / Fall, Wearables

Try your hand at completing the whole zombie look with the help of acrylic paint and an assortment of paint brushes to create DIY Zombie Shoes.  See how to turn an ordinary pair of canvas shoes into feet fit for the walking dead. The more broken toes, blood oozing out, grubs wiggling their way in and caked on dirt, the better.

I created these shoes a few years back for a no longer live costume site and I’m so glad I can share it now with my blog audience! These DIY Zombie Shoes are still in rotation come October so you may see one of us wearing them at the softball field!

DIY Zombie Shoes Supplies:

  • Canvas shoes (I got these at Walmart!)
  • Acrylic paint (greens, tans, yellows, reds, pinks, browns, black, white)
  • Assortment of paintbrush sizes
  • Chalk

First put your feet in the shoes and use chalk to roughly sketch the outline of your shoes. This will help give you a better perspective on the toe sizes you paint in the next step.

Next, use white paint to define any broken toes your zombie might have developed during their long walk across the plains.

These zombies have long lost their tanish-pinkish skintone so fill in the rest of the feet with a greenish-yellowish base coat of their decomposing flesh.

Lay on all the zombie style accessories, like broken toenails, dirty knuckles, and slimy grubs with red, pink and brown paint.

Add more blood, deep crevasses and unpatched cuts.

Finally use black paint and a skinny paint brush to define the outlines of each toe and the whole foot in general.

Once dry, you’ll be ready to play dead while walking, slouching or slumping your way through the streets wearing these DIY Zombie Shoes!
