When brainstorming costumes for this year, my 6 year old immediately decided on the blue paired, happy going, wish filled main character of True as her DIY Halloween costume this year and here’s how I made it!

DIY True and the Rainbow Kingdom Halloween Costume Supplies

  • White T-shirt (I chose long sleeve since it’s cold at Halloween where we are!)
  • Pink leggings and skirt (I found this awesome set where it’s already attached!)

  • Felt: Yellow, Red, White, Teal, Purple,
  • Heat Transfer Vinyl: White, Black, Red, Yellow, Light Blue
  • Cricut Maker
  • White Headband
  • (3) Small Wood Balls

I had a great helper in the office the day I started cutting all the pieces for her True Halloween costume. She likes to press the start button when we have to take each mat in and out. Tip: in addition to all the pieces on the file, you’ll also need to cut long (3-4) 1.5″ strips of the yellow vinyl for the strap of the backpack on the front and back.

These are True’s three wishes that pop out of the backpack in the show.

To create that Peter Pan collar style True has, I sewed on two pieces of white felt cut to create that signature shape.

For the headband, I painted three wood balls in a red/pink color, yellow, and blue.

Then adhered the balls on the headband using a strong adhesive called Power-Tac.

In years past, I created Halloween costumes on basic pieces, like dresses or pants and then those items being useful for Halloween only. (like the Trolls dresses).

This year I smartened up and decided to make some leg cuffs with velcro for the bottom of Hailey’s pants without having to ruin the pieces.

When attached, these stripes look more like True’s outfit and after Halloween she can remove them and still wear the pink skirt/leggings piece that she loves.

Once these are all put together with the blue wig, this True and the Rainbow Kingdom Halloween costume came to life!

Just like I’ve done in ALL years past, I made sure to do a separate photoshoot of our little trick-or-treater-to-be in her costume BEFORE the big day. This allows you to capture all the cuteness without the stress of the sugar rushed holiday. See it all come together in our instagram reel featuring the theme song!

Hello fellow readers! If you're looking for some r Hello fellow readers! If you're looking for some recommendations for historical fiction reads, here are 5 of my favorites I enjoyed last year that I'd recommend to readers who like this genre (with no spoilers):
.
The Frozen River by Arial Lawhorn – Takes place in the post American Revolution times, narrated by a midwife sharing her challenges in this profession and not being taken seriously but still having people trust her medical authority. It includes a murder and trial, which just reiterates how crazy it was to be a woman back then and their lack of rights!
.
The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel – Like many of her books, this author focuses on the French aspect of WWII, but this time as those who helped forge documents to help Jewish children cross the border.
.
The Nature of Fragile Things by Susan Miessner – Follow Susan Whalen who comes to San Francisco in 1906 as a mail order bride only to get into the middle of a complicated life after marrying a man she never met and things she discovers during a nature disaster in her state.
.
The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali – Starts in the 1950s in Iran where we meet two friends and follow their story through the historic time of this country. This fictional read shares more about the culture and limitations of women and those who try to change the government while struggling to maintain friendships.
.
The Rose Code by Kate Quinn – An assortment of female friendships during WWII as they work to break secret codes by the German military and continues to follow their stories through the years.
.
If you have a suggestion on another in this genre, please leave it in the comments so I can add to my TBR!
