Brielle’s daycare Valentine’s party is this week and they said we could bring Valentine’s for the kids to exchange but they could not include stickers, toys, candy or other small objects. I heard their message loud and clear – just flat paper! We didn’t just BUY those store bought ones with favorite characters. We HAD to make our own, of course, and went with the good “magic” technique of crayon resist painting!
Brielle previously experienced this when we did our Easter garland almost a year ago so it was time for a refresh!
Supplies:
- White Crayon
- Cardstock (I always prefer this to be more stable/flat when drying than fingerpaint paper)
- Fingerpaint (we used our ALEX Toys Tots Finger Paint Party kit)
First use the white crayon to draw the design. I went with a heart and arrow through it.
Next, let them have fun and paint! I gave her the little comb from this fingerpaint kit as I’m always trying to introduce other items to use as paintbrushes, but she always reverts back to her favorite – her hand!
As she moved her hands around the heart would “magically” appear.
She got excited for this magical step ALL ELEVEN TIMES we did this, one for each kid in her class.
After drying, we added a message so they’d know who this handmade creation was from and these quick and easy (and fun) cards were complete for Friday’s party!
