Back to School Lunch Must Haves

in Celebrations, Favorite Products, Lifestyle, School / Grad

It’s back to school shopping time! We’re all checking off the school supplies lists they just sent out, getting some new clothes to rock the first few days, getting their hair cuts and planning out the lunch routine. Here are my back to school lunch must haves!

It’s August and while much of the country is heading back to school here in New Jersey, we don’t go back for another month. So we’re in back to school shopping mode! Along with all the clothes and school supplies list, I also like to stock up on our back to school lunch essentials!

Fun fact: I actually don’t pack the lunches in my house, my kids do! They have both been packing their own lunches and snacks since kindergarten and even make them on the weekend too! Here are a few of the favorite things we use for back to school lunch!

  • Neoprene lunch bags – Last year my girls used two fun neoprene lunch bags all year and even through camp this summer. They were great for isolation, strong handle to hold everything and comfortable if they carried it separate of their backpack. Brielle had this Purple Unicorn one and Hailey had this Teal Flamingo one! They were GREAT and lasted all year and through camp this summer.
  • 1 1/4 Cup Plastic containers – We use these smaller containers for fresh cut fruit or to hold a “crunchy” element (aka crackers, pretzels etc) so I picked up another 6 pack for this back to school season.

  • Mini Food Picks – Along with the small containers, we include one of these heart shaped food picks to help pick up the cut fruit. It’s like a mini fork so we don’t have to include a plastic utensil in the bag separately. Note: they are big enough to pick something up but small in size so I would only send them in with kids you trust can handle these items and it would not be a choking hazard!

  • Reusable Ice Packs – These butterfly shaped ice packs help keep their food chilled during the day without being overly cold to the touch when reaching into their bag. (PS I see they also have penguin and owl designs if butterflies aren’t your thing!)
  • Dishwasher Safe Personalized labels – If you’ve been following me for any length of time, you know we’ve been using Namebubbles.com labels for their Tupperware and clothing items since they were in daycare! These dishwasher safe labels stay on all their water bottles and plastic containers through plenty of washing cycles and we use their stick on clothing labels for jackets and on tags of towels. 5 Tips to Make Shell Canvases like this: 🐚 Draw ou 5 Tips to Make Shell Canvases like this:
🐚 Draw out a stencil of your preferred shape. It's optional to paint the shape itself, but even a rough pencil line will keep you on task
🐚 Use strong glue and a lot of it! I used E6000 glue and ended up having to get more than what you see here.
🐚 Flip the shells over! There are some cool colors on the insides that may match better than the top side.
🐚 Clean and dry the shells thoroughly. Sorry, but I have no tips about this process as my mom had these ones for year from past trips, but you don't want some smelly shells hanging in your home!
🐚 Don't skip on those little shells as those minis are perfect to fill in the gaps of the collages.

Hello fellow readers! If you're looking for some r Hello fellow readers! If you're looking for some recommendations for historical fiction reads, here are 5 of my favorites I enjoyed last year that I'd recommend to readers who like this genre (with no spoilers):
.
The Frozen River by Arial Lawhorn – Takes place in the post American Revolution times, narrated by a midwife sharing her challenges in this profession and not being taken seriously but still having people trust her medical authority. It includes a murder and trial, which just reiterates how crazy it was to be a woman back then and their lack of rights!
.
The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel – Like many of her books, this author focuses on the French aspect of WWII, but this time as those who helped forge documents to help Jewish children cross the border.
.
The Nature of Fragile Things by Susan Miessner – Follow Susan Whalen who comes to San Francisco in 1906 as a mail order bride only to get into the middle of a complicated life after marrying a man she never met and things she discovers during a nature disaster in her state.
.
The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali – Starts in the 1950s in Iran where we meet two friends and follow their story through the historic time of this country. This fictional read shares more about the culture and limitations of women and those who try to change the government while struggling to maintain friendships.
.
The Rose Code by Kate Quinn – An assortment of female friendships during WWII as they work to break secret codes by the German military and continues to follow their stories through the years.
.
If you have a suggestion on another in this genre, please leave it in the comments so I can add to my TBR!
