Future you will love that you read and completed my 4 Things to do in January post and set some goals in mind when it comes to organization and planning for the new year. These 4 tasks no only get rid of clutter, kick off some organization processes and can potentially help you earn some income by the end of the year!
Everyone spent the week between Christmas and New Years in a daze of too much TV, too many snacks and lots of clutter. While we’re all focused on putting away the holiday decor, attempting resolutions and weaning off eating too much cheese, I hope you’ll consider doing these 4 Things To Do In January to set you up for success in the new year.
- Organize and Back Up Your Photos – Start with folders! My number one tip is to name your folders by NUMBER not words when it comes to dates so they stay in chronological order. Then, whether it’s on a physical hard drive or cloud system, take the time to back them up so you don’t lose them!
- Sort and Store or Start a Memorabilia Storage Box for Your Kids – You likely have a big pile of paperwork, artwork or memorabilia certificate from the kids from this year past year so time to get organized and sort it for them. Visit my post for all the tips on filling these split lid storage boxes I use.
- Turn All Your Christmas Cards into Flip Books – Use my tutorial to easily turn your photo cards into flip books so you can display them in a little basket and review them every year. It’s one of the favorite things my kids look at during the holiday season when we put out our decorations.
- Sign Up For Free Rebate Apps to earn cash– With these apps you submit your grocery store receipts via a simple photo and you get rebates for certain items purchased. After a certain threshold you can withdraw the earnings in the form of gift cards (my personal preference) or sometimes paid out to your checking or paypal account. These are the two I’ve been a part of and my experience, plus one I do to support my kids’ schools. The links listed are referrals so if you join we both set points or money to start off!
- Ibotta – Since 2013 I have saved over $600. With this app you need to select items that you bought to qualify for the redemption so it’s an extra step by they do include lots of brands I buy (like Honey Nut Cheerios or Skippy Peanut Butter) but they also include “any brand” items like milk, cheese or cereal.
- Fetch – This one allows you to upload receipts for anything and you get extra bonus points for purchasing items that align with their partnering brands or products. I’ve only been a member of Fetch since May 2024 and only earned enough for one $25 Old Navy gift card during that time but it literally takes 1 minute to that the quick shot so I consider this easy earnings.
- Boxtops for Education – While this isn’t an app where I personally earn any money back, it’s the same quick process of photographing a grocery store receipt and the earnings go towards my kids school so I think it’s worth the small amount of time I use it.
