Under the Sea Nursery: Count the Waves Quote Wall Art

in Bedroom, Crafts & DIY, Home Decor, Home Decor & Landscaping

I’m not typically one of those people who’s really inspired by or loves quotes. But when it came time to create some wall art for Hailey’s room and I was researching “nautical/ocean” themed nurseries, I kept seeing this one”count the waves” quote that seemed so sweet.  Sure I could’ve just created the design and had it printed to frame and hang but I like the handmade look!

I designed the quote digitally first so I’d had a reference of sizes/fonts when it was time to sketch it out. Derek primed a canvas that previously had a different design on it so I had a blank slate to dress it up for my little miss.

After I had a rough sketch ready, I got out my Deco Art Americana paints and got to work making this piece colorful. The white border just seemed TOO white to me so a few little dots were needed to keep it colorful.

After that was all dry, I took the same approach as the Octopus Wall Art and added some sparkly accents using crystal fine glitter.

I spent many days and nights sitting with my little miss in that comfy rocker under this handmade art.

Hi Lori. It was actually made by a family member. You can see how I made it over on this post though, in case you find a wooden one that isn’t white and distressed: https://spotofteadesigns.com/under-the-sea-nursery-ship-wheel-mirror-makeover/

I actually have 2 boat wheels that do not have a mirror in the center & in my opinion I’m not sure there is enough room to add a mirror to the center. I would love to be able to share a pick with u of what they look like & see if u could offer up any ideas for dressing the up some! I am going to do the distressed white so info about the chalk paint was very helpful!

I know some craft stores sell the little mirrors in maybe the candle section that could possibly fit?

          Good luck on your makeover!

Do you have a file of the words for this? I love the fonts you used, and am having a hard time duplicating the font in Word. I’d really like to make a canvas of my own for baby’s room.

    Thank you.

Hi Stephanie! Thanks for reaching out about this print! I have actually had several requests about it recently and now offer an option to buy a PDF file with custom colors and sizes to match your child’s nursery. I’ve updated the post to reflect this new option. Please email me for a quote!

Hi! I’d love to know what paint colors you used on your walls! We’re going with an underwater theme for our baby girl and I want the teal/purple scheme as well. Would you mind sharing the names/brands of those colors?

How did you trace the font onto the canvas?

I actually eyeballed it to draw onto the canvas. HOWEVER, you can also try this technique that I did on another project and it worked out great: https://spotofteadesigns.com/how-to-transfer-a-design-onto-a-pumpkin/

May seem like a silly question but what type of paint brushes do u use for painting the acrylic paint onto the canvas? I have the worst luck with paint brushes

I don’t have any specific brand that I use. I keep reusing “artist’s brushes” set from Michaels from years ago.
