Summertime is full of lots of barbecues, summer picnics and plenty of outdoor eating. Make your table festive with coordinating table decor. Turn boring terracotta pots into cute watermelon utensil holders with the help of some acrylic paint!
A few weeks ago I shared the theme for the girl’s birthday party – watermelons! And YES as a party stylist I’ve already started thinking about party decor and the dessert table and know I needed a few DIY components.
I always have issues on where to keep the utensils so I thought a custom set of utensil holders was in order. I grabbed my newest collection of Americana Premium Acrylic Paints from DecoArt and got to work.
Or rather put Brielle to work! One night when Hailey was sleeping, she helped me add the base coat.
Primary magenta was perfect for the bottom part of the pot that would be the juicy watermelon.
This paint is great for lots of surfaces as it’s thick and creamy yet dries with a smooth finish.
I already put aside some colorful utensils in an array of watermelon themed colors and set them aside for the party. (Did I mention it’s not until two months from now? haha)
And PS does anyone else have a large collection of spoons yet never enough forks?
Bring on some pudding, jello or ice cream this summer! I have tons of spoons!

How cute! And yes, I have a million spoons and no forks :-)

Umm, what size pots did you use and what are the other paint colors? The picture is blurry when I try to enlarge it.

Hi Bayleigh. I made these pots YEARS ago but I’m going to assume they are about 6″ wide. The paint is just a premium acrylic paint that I got at Joann’s but you can use any acrylic paint. Apply a clear varnish, like a modge podge to protect it. If you make it, please tag me as I’d love to see it! :)
