Longtime followers know that I have a long history creating DIY party backdrops using every day items or affordable materials. This one uses two bolts of Oly*Fun material from my friends at Fairfield World, but honestly there’s plenty on one bolt for lots of large backdrops! You may remember me using this material to create outdoor cushions for our fire pit and creating a stamped leaf table runner for the fall so here’s another idea using bright colors from this line!

Fabric Chain Party Backdrop Supplies:
- Oly Fun Kiwi
- Oly Fun Clover
- Rotary Cutter
- Backdrop stand
- T-square Ruler
- Stapler

To create the chains, first cut long strips of your Oly*Fun using a long ruler and your rotary cutter on a cutting mat. I made my strips 2” wide.

Next, cut these strips down to smaller pieces. I created mine as 12 x 2” lengths. Oly*Fun is a versatile materials that cuts so smoothly and easily with scissors or rotary cutters, but the latter is definitely better for the long length bolts that Oly*Fun comes in.

Continue cutting your Oly*Fun bolts down to create the amount of piles needed to create your party backdrop. In this case I use (20) 12 x 2″ strips for each fabric chain and created (18) total fabric chains so I cut 360 total strips.

Now think back to your childhood and let’s create a fabric chain with our Oly*Fun pieces we cut. Take one piece and roll into a circle shape, overlapping it about one inch and using a staple to secure it.

Insert another strip inside the circle and attach that one together. Repeat this approach until you get the full length you want for your backdrop.

Repeat to create additional fabric chains. I created this party backdrop using both shades of OlyFun to create a unique effect.

Pop up your backdrop stand and slide the loops through the top pole, set your camera up on a tripod and get ready to capture some great party memories!

This party backdrop is perfect for a photo booth station so get your green on, throw up some peace signs, or don some funny St. Patrick’s Day necklaces and celebrate the holiday with some memorable photos and a cute display!

Even if you don’t have a St. Patrick’s Day party to plan, you can learn the simple steps for this fabric chain backdrop and consider it in other colors for other party themes!
