It’s been a long time since I’ve shared a bleeding tissue paper craft on these pages, but I love the look every time we do it! I know the concept sounds kinda morbid but it’s really just a fun way to make a faux watercolor effect.
To create this look effect you need bleeding art tissue, NOT regular tissue paper. We’ve done lots of crafts using this one pack of oversized sheets. You’ll also need watercolor paper and a spray bottle of water.
Cover your surface with a PLASTIC tablecloth, not newspaper or kraft paper. You don’t want any of this bleeding tissue paper to bleed to your table! Choose your colors and rip the tissue into smaller pieces. This just helps create the multi color effect.
Spray your watercolor paper to be wet, but not soaked, and start layering pieces on. Some colors are more powerful than others so you’ll start to see them bleed first!
Continue to cover the whole paper surface then spray with more water. Allow it to dry thoroughly before removing.
I mounted mine on foam core to make them stiff ,but you could also frame them or turn them into a garland!
I chose to decorate mine to match my spring mantle theme and cut bird shapes from heat transfer vinyl and applied them with my Easypress.
I chose HTV as I learned my lesson from trying to use transfer paper on my watercolor paper when trying to do Brielle’s framed piece in her bedroom years ago. (spoiler, I tried adhesive vinyl and the transfer tape ripped up all the watercolor paper!)
These bleeding tissue paper art pieces look great on the spring mantle as they add just the right amount of color with a mix of textures from the watercolor paper and smooth vinyl.
