Spotofteadesigns.com reviews Kiwi Crate, a monthly subscription service of kids arts and crafts | spotofteadesigns.com

At 3 years old, my nephew Blake is at the perfect age to enjoy some hands on crafting time with his mom, auntie and grandmas! We recently spent an afternoon playing with an awesome bug themed kit from Kiwi Crate.

Kiwi Crate is an award-winning, Monthly Subscription service that provides all the hands-on materials to inspire creative, educational fun. They are all inclusive kits gear towards kids ages 3 to 8 so my little Blake was at the perfect age! We ripped through the kraft wrapping paper and flipped open the pretty printed box to see what was inside. Yep, everything was in there that we needed, including a pair of kid scissors! Each of the projects were individually bagged so you didn’t confuse which piece went to which project.

Kiwi Crate review: Making a glowing firefly | spotofteadesigns.com

The first activity we made was a firefly that really lit up and flew through the air! Blake enjoyed decorating the jar with different colors stickers, which he would name aloud while placing them on.

Next, we followed the directions to apply wings, eyes, antenna and eventually the glow sticks inside the jar. He was able to complete most of these steps with help from mom.

When we told him it glowed he ran over to the light switch to turn it off so he could see the firefly fly through the air on the string that was included. It was a very cute project!

Kiwi Crate Review: making and painting with sponges | spotofteadesigns.com

The next project included compressed sponges that would expand when put into water. Then you’d use the sponges for a painting project. He loves to paint and loves to see reactions to things so this project was fun for several reasons.

Gwenma helped him paint the shapes onto the paper, turning them into bug shapes with a little bit of brushwork. Mostly he loved dipping the sponges and making the shape, which was perfectly happy with us!

Kiwi Crate review: Bug flashcards | spotofteadesigns.com

The kit also included these flashcards that could be used later to help identify and learn about bugs in his yard. Overall, I think he enjoyed his crafting time spent that afternoon and will continue to enjoy the other pieces of the kit that we didn’t get to use yet! Thank you, Kiwi Crate, for making a fun crafting afternoon for Blake!

I previously created them for my friend's Kentucky Derby 40th birthday party using cheapy kid trophy bases, some plastic horse toys that I spray painted and a little adhesive vinyl featuring the categories. Friends got a kick out of this silly victory on the biggest horse racing day of the year.
