While I tolerate them, personally I am not a big pineapple fan in my fruit salad. I do, however, love how cute and colorful they are and was happy to see them as part of the party collection I was honored to style for Wholesale Party Supplies. I decided to go the neighborhood block party approach and styled a fun fruit filled dessert table!
I’m always up for some food crafting when it comes to these parties and immediately thought of pineapple cupcakes. You know I love me some cupcake toppers and with the recent addition of my new favorite toy, my Cricut Explore Air 2 machine, I was very excited to try out a detailed cut that was done in no time at all!
For those of you unfamiliar, a Cricut is a personal diecutting machine that allows you to cut tons of different mediums, including cardstock and vinyl. Aka get ready for more Cricut posts to be filling my feed and my parties! I’m ITCHING to do some DIY t-shirt designs for the girls once I get the knack of heat transfer vinyl! This machine is especially great as you are able to upload your own designs which really speaks to my Illustrator loving graphic designer heart.
Anyway, back to the project. I designed a leaf template, which you the average user can download as a PDF here or Cricut/Silhouette users can download as an SVG cut file here. Each 3D topper takes 3 leaf shapes. Cut out 4 leaf shapes for one topper. Use a ruler and bone folder to make a score line down the center of the leaf vertically. If you don’t have a bone folder, you can also use a Popsicle stick.
Fold all 4 leaf shapes in half and glue two together and the other two together.
Insert a toothpick in the center then glue the two glued halves together to connect all 4 together to make a 3D topper for the pineapple cupcakes.
Then comes the easy (and delicious) part.
Make or buy the cupcakes, put them in cute cupcake liners (yellow or gold being more pineapple looking) then put frosting on the top.
Insert your 3D cupcake topper into the icing to complete your pineapple cupcakes!
These looked great on my “Hello Summer” neighborhood block party I styled.
Make your summer even more sweet with a fruit themed party display!
