Party Styling Tips & Tricks - #partyplanning | spotofteadesigns.com

Only those who know me in real life (or follow me on Instagram) may know that I have recently become a contributor for Wholesale Party Supplies and Birthday in a Box. I’ve had the pleasure of styling some fun parties for them which have stretched my creative skills in photography, budgeting, party planning and crafting. Here are just a few tips I’ve learned during this time but there is always more to learn!

NOTE: All the photos seen on this post are from full parties I styled so scroll to the bottom of the post for direct links with more ideas on these themes!

Party Styling Tips & Tricks - #partyplanning | spotofteadesigns.com
  • Use varying heights in your displays. Use balloons, tissue paper poms and paper fans to draw the eye up and make your table look more full and cake plates put your desserts in easy reach!

  • Pay attention to contrast. Some foods and snacks aren’t the easiest to photograph due to their color or shape. Make sure to use contrasting colors or a pattern to help them stand out.
  • Not all hanging things have to be hung! Even though some accessories come with a string and are meant to be hung, they can also be staged on a table top or even the floor to fill some space or bring in some colors. Example: The paper lantern football seen in the photo above.

  • Remove the brand’s water bottle wrappers before putting personalized bottle wrappers on your bottles. Ok this one might make me look really dumb but I had never used personalized bottle wrappers before and when I put on my first one, I put it on right over the brand wrapper! DUH! I wasn’t worried about it showing through as much as I had trouble lining it up for full coverage.
Party Styling Tips & Tricks - #partyplanning Paper plate background | spotofteadesigns.com
  • Painter’s tape is your friend! It helps hang things, like banners or garland, without ruining wall paint. It helps remove wrinkles from plastic tablecloths when pulled tight. It is also key to hang an affordable photo backdrop made of paper plates!
Party Styling Tips & Tricks - #partyplanning - layer your plates! | spotofteadesigns.com
  • Sometimes one plate isn’t enough! Layer smaller plates on bigger plates, mix shapes like circles and squares or layer patterns on one another to make it fun!
  • There’s a difference between luncheon napkins and beverage napkins. The latter is smaller, FYI.
Party Styling Tips & Tricks - #partyplanning paper straw easels | spotofteadesigns.com
  • Paper straws have lots of uses. Sure you can stick them in a cup and DRINK out of them since they add a pop of color. But since they are a food safe item, I’ve also used them for cupcake toppers, to hang a garland in a cake or as a mini easel place card!
Party Styling Tips & Tricks - #partyplanning | spotofteadesigns.com
  • Use two cupcake wrappers for desserts. Yes you’ll need a cupcake wrapper when baking the item but the pretty patterns seen on it before baking hardly look like it after it’s out of the oven. Instead, to give a pop of color to the display, use a second wrapper to stage your cupcake in when on the table!

5 Tips to Make Shell Canvases like this: 🐚 Draw ou 5 Tips to Make Shell Canvases like this:
🐚 Draw out a stencil of your preferred shape. It's optional to paint the shape itself, but even a rough pencil line will keep you on task
🐚 Use strong glue and a lot of it! I used E6000 glue and ended up having to get more than what you see here.
🐚 Flip the shells over! There are some cool colors on the insides that may match better than the top side.
🐚 Clean and dry the shells thoroughly. Sorry, but I have no tips about this process as my mom had these ones for year from past trips, but you don't want some smelly shells hanging in your home!
🐚 Don't skip on those little shells as those minis are perfect to fill in the gaps of the collages.

Hello fellow readers! If you're looking for some r Hello fellow readers! If you're looking for some recommendations for historical fiction reads, here are 5 of my favorites I enjoyed last year that I'd recommend to readers who like this genre (with no spoilers):
.
The Frozen River by Arial Lawhorn – Takes place in the post American Revolution times, narrated by a midwife sharing her challenges in this profession and not being taken seriously but still having people trust her medical authority. It includes a murder and trial, which just reiterates how crazy it was to be a woman back then and their lack of rights!
.
The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel – Like many of her books, this author focuses on the French aspect of WWII, but this time as those who helped forge documents to help Jewish children cross the border.
.
The Nature of Fragile Things by Susan Miessner – Follow Susan Whalen who comes to San Francisco in 1906 as a mail order bride only to get into the middle of a complicated life after marrying a man she never met and things she discovers during a nature disaster in her state.
.
The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali – Starts in the 1950s in Iran where we meet two friends and follow their story through the historic time of this country. This fictional read shares more about the culture and limitations of women and those who try to change the government while struggling to maintain friendships.
.
The Rose Code by Kate Quinn – An assortment of female friendships during WWII as they work to break secret codes by the German military and continues to follow their stories through the years.
.
If you have a suggestion on another in this genre, please leave it in the comments so I can add to my TBR!
