Last March, I dug in the archives of old school crafts and brought back the idea of a paper chain, only I had made it with two colors of Oly Fun Fabric.

This made for a super fun backdrop of a St. Patrick’s Day shoot that you could easily recreate for any holiday or theme. Fast forward a few months and the idea of paper chains were all over social for the Christmas season!

This year I’m reminding everyone of these fun no sew woven hearts that we all made as kids with paper, only this time I’m doing it again with Oly Fun! Oly Fun is a perfect fabric material that comes in bolts, so there’s plenty to use for crafting and it cuts so nice and clearly without fraying. It holds it’s shape well making a great option for woven Valentine’s crafts like this!

DIY No Sew Woven Heart Pouch Supplies:

  • Oly Fun Fabric Bubble Gum
  • Oly Fun Fabric Cherry Pop
  • Woven Heart Template
  • Scissors
  • Chalk or marking pen
  • Hot Glue Gun

First grab the FREE printable template for the woven heart pouch shape, trace it onto your Oly Fun and cut to shape. I used a piece of chalk but you could easily use any other marking pen you have. Once cut out, fold it in half and follow the lines to create the slits needed for the folding affect in a later step.

You’ll need two pieces per heart pouch. I opted to do two different colors for my design to really show off the weaving effect. I also provided 2 different sizes of the template so you can choose your size.

If you want, you can also opt to create a little handle. Do this by cutting a strip of the extra Oly Fun fabric and set aside for a later step.

Now let’s weave! Star by folding bold parts in half. Start with the left most strip of the red piece on the right and begin weaving it under and over the four strips of the pink piece on the left.

Repeat for each of the additional pieces, making sure to alternate the over/under idea to create the woven effect. Tip: Make sure you’re opening up the strips so you create a pocket in the middle when you finish. See the weaving in action on my instagram reel tutorial!

Use a dab of hot glue to attach the handle to both sides of the woven heart shape.

Fill your woven heart pouch with goodies! Consider rolling up some novelty socks, candies or Valentine notes.
