For the past few years, my mom, our inspirational family gardener, has gifted my girls an Amaryllis flower bulb kit for Christmas. These kits are easily found at places like Home Depot or Lowes. An amaryllis is a beautiful red flower that’s easy to grow inside in winter. It’s fast growing that has many stages, which are easy and fun for kids to observe.
First a small stem forms, then additional leaves and very quickly the stem shoots up and FOUR red blooms usually comes out from it!
I had always encouraged my girls to track the growth of these plants using a ruler and, later, a tape measure. We often sent weekly pictures to Grammie so she could see both the flower and the girls grow.
Like in years past, she gifted us an Amaryllis kit this past Christmas and I thought it would be fun to create a prettier printable to help track the results of these flowers. Enter my FREE AMARYLLIS GROWTH CHARTER PRINTABLE for kids!
UPDATE: I’ve created a second Amaryllis Growth Chart version that is left blank in the “weeks” column in case you want to just write the date since sometimes there’s significant growth in just a few days!
Each week, they are encouraged to measure their plant and see how much it’s grown. There’s also an area to describe what you see as it often changes during it’s growth.
In addition to tracking the weekly growth, this printable includes a line for them to write their name and to put their initial estimate down for how high they think their amaryllis flower will grow. You might think these two are way off with this high estimate, but we have gotten high growing ones in the past!
Here’s their amaryllis plant from 2021. See how it grows 4 outwardly facing red flowers? It’s such a unique plant!
And here’s how high our amaryllis flower grew in 2020! We have even gotten plants that grows a second shoot with 4 new flowers after this first one dies!
So this year, I encourage you to grab one of these Amaryllis bulb kits, plant it and start tracking it’s progress with this freebie!
