When moving into our home last year, our backyard space was a blank slate with no designated area to sit to eat or casually hang out. This September, we were able to transform this open space into usable space for our family with a new playset and paver patio installation. Relive this process and check out the back yard updates.

Before seeing the big reveal of this backyard space, let’s look at what it looked like last June.

It was a green pasture with unkempt rose bushes and not much else. We were excited to make this space more usable for our family and for when we host guests.

Instagram stories followers will remember the saga over getting this playset installed in our backyard. Besides a delay in getting an install date, we had an issue with missing parts with the first install team and the second not show up on the second date, but finally installers were able to put this together, with 2 professionals taking 8 hours.

Needless to say, the girls are SUPER excited to have this right in our backyard for instant backyard play and Derek was happy to not have to take 3 weekends to put it all together. He has, however, been working to apply Thompson’s Water Seal to the set to seal it, something he plans to do each year.

When it came to the patio space, we had many companies come with their visions and provide quotes, but ultimately went with Groundmasters, experts in hardscapes.

In about 2 weeks this crew dug out the backyard space to install a new paver patio with a sunken in fire pit.

I was able to grab these in progress shots over the unseasonably hot days those two weeks and loved watching it all come together.

The team couldn’t have been more professional, arriving bright and early by 7:30am each day, staying until about 5pm at night.

They never left their tools out in the way overnight and were very respectable to the other spaces of our yard.

They installed this large paver patio and graded the yard around it for a smooth transition.

The fire pit is sunk down in the back corner and includes 19 feet of seating space.

Derek can’t wait to perfect his campfire skills this fall and I can’t wait to shop for cushions and patio seating next spring!

They saved two of the rose bushes, originally along the back of the house and moved them to the side of the house with a new landscape bed.

We plan to add more greenery here in the upcoming seasons and are appreciative of the EP Henry edge stone that will help keep the mulch in place.

What you can’t necessarily see from these photos were the drainage solutions that were also done in this space.

All 6 downspouts of our house have been extended underground to include pop ups further away from the house outside of the patio space.

I’ll be sure to update when we finally find the right patio furniture and add new greenery next year!

Our group of 2 adults and 5 kids were hosted by TreeTopQuestPhilly and enjoyed a sunny Saturday exploring obstacles, climbing and ziplining and we'd highly recommend this park!
.
Here some key details to know before you go:
- The staff is super knowledgable, friendly and patient with climbers of all abilities, but it is self paced where you are in control of your own equipment.
- You attend an equipment fitting, safety instruction and practice course before you climb
- Expect to spend the full 2.5 hours of your reservation and you likely won't need sunglasses in this shady spot
- Gloves are an optional purchase, but we didn't get them and no one got any blisters
- There are 4 levels of courses with Level 4 being for those 12+ only. It's HIGH but thrilling to those willing to check it out!
- Porta potties and lockers are available at the check in area and there are plenty of benches and picnic tables to sit at in the park. Spectators are free to watch from below.
