You may have just found out you’re expecting or you’re reading this with a month to go but no matter where you are in your pregnancy it’s time to make room for baby! For the past few months, on Brielle’s monthly birthday, I’ve been sharing some advice and recommendations from my perspective as a first time mom (FTM). Today I’m going to call out some places where you need to make some room for your little one! Their stuff takes over your house so if you’re still in the nesting phase, now is a good time to reorganize/declutter some spots to get ready! • A place to sleep. Sure, you don’t need to make a coordinated nursery with all your favorite patterns or favorite theme, but you’ll at least need a crib/bassette/pack ‘n play/cosleeper where they can rest their little head. It doesn’t hurt to also have a place to change them, store their clothes and all those books/toys, but those are just bonuses if you live in a smaller space.

  • A place for bottle feeding materials. While Brielle was mainly breast fed, we did introduce the occasional freshly pumped bottle or used frozen breast milk.  I needed a place to keep bottles, milk storage bags (along with a Sharpie), and any breast pump accessories and preferred this spot to be near the sink for messing transferring issues. For us, this shelf in our overhead kitchen cabinet, which was easy access to the sink where I’d pour the milk into the bags.
First Time Mom Advice: Create play areas on each floor with a blanket and some toys so you can easily move around the home to keep baby entertained | spotofteadesigns.com
  • A place for them to lay down to crawl or practice tummy time. Since we live in a split level home, we had a station on every floor where we could safely put baby down and allow her to practice those milestones like tummy time, sitting and crawling. We were lucky to have received many handmade quilts and blankets at our baby shower and I used each and every one for these stations! If I had to do laundry in the finished basement, baby could lay down there for a few minutes with me. If I was making food in the kitchen, she calmly played on the living room floor right in my eyesight. If we went upstairs to her room, she had a set place to play. Sure, this created more areas for me to keep clean and more blankets to put in the laundry, but it allowed me to continue my day smoothly, knowing that she had a safe and entertaining spot wherever we moved.
Feeding material storage solution using Rubbermaid Bento Boxes from Target | spotofteadesigns.com
  • Once starting solids, a place to their eating utensils and materials. The assortment of spoons, bowls, bibs, snack containers, and sippy cups really add up when you realize you need more than 1 or 10! I store all Brielle’s materials in a pull out fabric bin in the tall cabinet in the kitchen. I used these awesome Rubbermaid Bento Storage Box with Flex Dividers. It has compartments inside that can collapse to create different configurations inside, if needed. Right now, all the compartments are popped out and filled to the max!

So where else do you need to make room for baby?

☀️ This is a 13 mile, one way scenic route so once you miss a stop, you missed it. Plan ahead!
☀️ Junior Ranger Booklets from the Visitor's Center kept them entertained and informed along the route, plus they get a cool pin (and a whistle upon completing some pages)
☀️ Calico Tanks was our favorite hike of our entire vacation as it offers new terrain to explore, challenging spots to climb or move around, and great views at the top!
