Winter weather is quickly approaching which means less opportunities for little ones to play outside. Now mommy has to think of ways to entertain a two year old in a house so she doesn’t go stir crazy.

One thing we always can turn to for fun is Contact Paper play! But just like our sunflower themed Contact Paper play, I made this one a two parter which includes a fun craft first!

First we had to made the fall leaves. I decided to go with the good old finger paint approach, breaking out our beloved Crayola Fingerpaints and let her go to town on a few sheets of cardstock. We hadn’t done fork painting since our Valentine’s day cards so I gave her two plastic ones and let her play.

She very quietly dipped her fork into the plate of paint and applied it to the paper. But that didn’t entertain her as much this time around so it was time for the big guns: her hands!

She obviously was having fun with the messy part!

After the sheets dried, we traced her hands (and feet by her request) and drew on some veins to create our leaves.

I took a brown piece of cardstock and drew a basic tree shape. Construction paper is always an option for kids crafts, but with contact paper I always found that cardstock holds up better. Kids are big into taking things off and on the contact paper so using something with a little more weight helps for continuous play.

And continue she did!

Brielle kept making some trees using her own DYI finger paint leaves!
