Long time Spot of Tea Designs readers will know that DIY nursery canvas art is not a new topic for me.

When my sister was expecting my first nephew, Blake, I made these canvas pieces to match the wall hanging she had in the room.

Then when miss Brielle was on her way I made these graphic versions for this little corner of her pink, grey and white nursery.

And current readers will know that I’ve been slowly sharing all the wall art pieces I made for Hailey’s Under the Sea themed nursery in recent months. Today I wanted to share another DIY canvas art piece I made for my longtime friend Aimee since she just welcome her first girl last month!

When I looked at Aimee’s Amazon Baby Registry I noticed this NoJo Jungle Babies Switch Plate Cover. I inquired more about the baby’s room theme and while she did mention a few different themes, this jungle animal one was reiterated. I decided to use the lightswitch (that I later gifted her with this wall art) as inspiration to create a canvas wall piece personalized with her name.

I of course, went to my stash of Deco Art Americana Paints and luckily already had all the color palette needed to make this piece.

The first step was to cover the 12×12 canvas piece with a coat of Sand Americana paint. Since there was no detailed work involved in this step, I let Brielle help with me with an extra large paintbrush. She had a ball.

Next, I got to work sketching out the design with white pencil (I learned this was easier to cover than pencil) and slowly painted it with smaller, detailed brushes.

It sat unfinished for weeks while I waited for her team green baby’s appearance so I’d know his/her name! Low and behold miss Lyra arrived as an early Valentine’s Day present and I completed the gift that afternoon.

I really like the concept of painting something that matches their décor and hope Lyra likes jungle animal themed room!

UPDATE: Aimee sent me this photo of the painting hung up!

Hello fellow readers! If you're looking for some r Hello fellow readers! If you're looking for some recommendations for historical fiction reads, here are 5 of my favorites I enjoyed last year that I'd recommend to readers who like this genre (with no spoilers):
.
The Frozen River by Arial Lawhorn – Takes place in the post American Revolution times, narrated by a midwife sharing her challenges in this profession and not being taken seriously but still having people trust her medical authority. It includes a murder and trial, which just reiterates how crazy it was to be a woman back then and their lack of rights!
.
The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel – Like many of her books, this author focuses on the French aspect of WWII, but this time as those who helped forge documents to help Jewish children cross the border.
.
The Nature of Fragile Things by Susan Miessner – Follow Susan Whalen who comes to San Francisco in 1906 as a mail order bride only to get into the middle of a complicated life after marrying a man she never met and things she discovers during a nature disaster in her state.
.
The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali – Starts in the 1950s in Iran where we meet two friends and follow their story through the historic time of this country. This fictional read shares more about the culture and limitations of women and those who try to change the government while struggling to maintain friendships.
.
The Rose Code by Kate Quinn – An assortment of female friendships during WWII as they work to break secret codes by the German military and continues to follow their stories through the years.
.
If you have a suggestion on another in this genre, please leave it in the comments so I can add to my TBR!
