At a recent trip to the Dollar Tree, I discovered they had a few new sections with thin wood shapes for the upcoming fall and Halloween season. I picked up a few wood leaves for the girls, but I was also ready for a dollar store makeover to make something cute for myself!
Besides the $2 spent on these wood pumpkin shapes, everything else for my fall mantle was already things in my possession!
For this wood pumpkin makeover, I painted the edges with a little orange paint. DecoArt Americana acrylics is always my go to!
Next I added patterned paper using my Beacon Zip Dry adhesive. I had just tried it out a few weeks back for the girls’ rainbow birthday party banner and gave it a go again. It worked out perfectly, drying fast with no lumps or bumps! Once dry, I trimmed around them with a craft knife and used a nail file to smooth any edges.
It’s been a hot minute since I worked on my paper flower skills so I thought a more wide fall looking flower would be a great accent to dress up these basic wood pumpkins. You can grab the free SVG cut file to create the wide layered flowers seen in this post here.
I apologize for forgetting to take a photo of the process in how I assembled the flowers but basically I used a little stamping ink around all the edges of each piece and curved the petals around a pencil for a little dimension.
Hot glue and a large metal brad held the actual flower together and kept it adhered to the pumpkin. The green leaf pieces were tucked behind to add a little dimension.
These dollar store wood pumpkins added a little hint of whimsy to my fall mantle with their fun patterns and dimensional flowers.
