As a kid, I grew up doing sports 2-3 seasons of the year and continued being active in my early adult years. My body is craving to back at it! Trust me, I’m hoping the transformation does become noticeable to those around me but I’m not striving to be a super model, by any means. I just want to have more energy. Gain more patience and be a little less love handle-y. haha. I am working on getting fit.
I’ll be doing that in clothes like this:
When you see me wearing this tank in the gym, you may think you see a thirty something year old, unmarried woman who might be between work since she’s at the gym at 8:30 on a Tuesday. You might think that she’s trying to work off some extra pounds from late nights drinking and eating and see she’s just wearing a tank top with backwards words. But you’d be wrong.
When I look at me wearing this at the gym, I see a wife who left her wedding rings at home as she works out, a woman who gained almost 100 pounds between 2 pregnancies and is working on losing the last stubborn 15 from her second, a coworker who starts her Tuesday and Thursday mornings with some time on the treadmill before sitting at a computer chair at her work from home job and a mom who’s setting an example to her daughters that you can take care of yourself while taking care of others. All this while wearing a tank that displays a motivating message TO HER.
After getting a Fitbit for Christmas that tracked my steps and sleep patterns I decided I wanted more and in January, I joined a gym. This was something I hadn’t done since before the kids. In late February I launched my 40 before Forty goals which included some physical transformations, like losing all the baby weight and completing a physical challenge.
Then, in my nightly perusing of instagram, I came upon the brand Perspective Fit and was immediately drawn to their simple typography style that held a powerful message. The line, created by Caitlin Skobo-Trought and Alison Grill, features mirrored text that is best used for workouts in front of a mirror. These motivational phrases and encouraging words are meant to inspire the wearer, not the external audience around them.
I’ve decided to follow the “dress for the job you want” attitude also works in the gym. Well fitting, comfortable and motivational workout clothes can only help me in my goals to get fit. I want to look like I’m taking this goal seriously and hopefully it will help to motivate me to keep going. I now proudly wear Perspective Fit gear at the gym and out in the world. This post features just two of their comfy and motivational t-shirts and tanks but you’ll want to check out their website to see the other designs they carry (including sparkly ones). They also expanded their brand to include a line of daily affirmation shirts for children with the same mirrored text look.
It’s now almost April and while not far into my new “getting fit” mindset, I’m happy to say I’m still making time to get to the gym at 2-3 days a week. I am seeing tiny physical transformations in myself and am happy with the progress. I hope that those 40 Before Forty goals mentioned above come sooner than the 5 year due date I gave that list! If you see me in the gym, say hello!
